It's not necessarily a question of improvement... how about just interpretation? Jackson decided to be satisfied showing a Middle Earth where dramatic license rules, because movies have to hit high points on some self-defined schedule in order to remain entertaining.

Besides, when it comes to Hitchhiker's, there's no point: We've already been warned that it's reality that's frequently wrong, not the Guide.

I do find Lord of the Rings to be an arduous and sometimes tiring read. And given that it's well-known that Tolkien wasn't a writer by trade, perhaps it's possible to admit that the books as written as not as valuable as the world created for the books, and so long as Jackson was true to the world, the details can lay to the side somewhat?

So the movies are a different medium as well and therefore cannot really be compared to the books?

Except for the time he and Spock we trapped along with the Klingons on the planet of omnipotent energy-beings. Spending the whole episode trying to coerce the inhabitants to do things his way, then getting pissy when they forced him to do things their way.

    Makes me laugh every time.

How typical. When a news story concerning **AA, specifically how it is going to sue people who download songs from the internet (I would not be shocked if the songs were Bach Chorales), everyone gets ticked, and we have veritable screaming matches.
I was going to submit a story about the AAA, but now I've thought the better of it. Thanks, msterious stranger!
