    When you say Skype do you mean Skype or basic VoIP functionality?

    Skype wont run unless eBay ports it specifically of course.
    I would be extremely surprised if it was too slow for the VoIP algorithms however.

    In Australia, universities are spewing out people who can pass a test but cant think in programming terms to save their life.

    I was rolling on the ground laughing when I saw the problems people were having making a simple Sudoku program in C#.
    Once they were done drag/dropping all the UI elements, they all got stuck.

    Mind you your right about they are teaching what they think employers want.
    We didnt get to see a *nix system let alone use one.
    Although that may be because of that rather large donation Microsoft gave.......

    I will never pay to use p2p technology to get content.
    If I'm paying then I demand a dedicated connection to a server to give me the content.

    Of course if its free then I cant complain. ;)

    I've always wondered why missil designers cant make their guidance systems slightly more intelligent.

    Can you see a 747 doing drastic evasive maneuvers? I cant.
    So why dont they lock on to the aircraft, project its trajectory and then only use the IR sensor for small tweaks.
    If a laser is there to throw it off course, it can easily detect that its a decoy since it would vary too much from the initial trajectory.

    It would work with flares too I'd imagine.
    Especially if they lock on to the specific temperature of the engines, not the hottest object.

    Jabber servers mesh together like a hybrid between Gnutella and eDonkey p2p networks.
    If your dude123@abc.com and you want to talk to chick456@xyz.com then abc.com will connect to xyz.com for you.

    I'm not sure what you mean by 'logging in' to LJ talk from GMail.
    You have to connect to the server your registered with to talk.
    If you log in to LJ talk and Gmail at the same time, you should be able to talk to yourself just fine.

    Contrary to what Microsoft and computer manufacturers are telling you, 67mhz is quite fast.
    Also remember that its a ARM processor, not x86.

    You dont need a dual core 3ghz processor to use Skype. :)

    Apparantly its very difficult to make a sensor to detect things like strings. :)
    Its not impossible, its just a matter of giving it time so technology can catch up.

    This book is just trying to get more evolution supporters by saying that believing in god is ok.

    Its irrational to believe in something there is no proof of.

    The patent office would determine how much.
    I cant think of any situation where someone shouldnt have to pay if their patent is overturned.

    A patent bounty sounds nice.

    If someone proves that your patent is a load of crap then you need to pay them a amount and pay the patent office the same amount for wasting time.

    It should make people think twice about getting a patent on something obvious.
    The person who finds the dud patent would be compensated and so would the patent office.

    The amount would be determined on a case by case basis I think.
    Too many variables. Dont want big companies abusing it because they can pay.

    This only works on the actual HTTP authentication stuff, not web forms.
    No mainstream site uses it so they'll probably get confused rather than enter in their password.

    DRM can be made difficult. It cannot be made flawless.
    If everyone used the same DRM then its one big target. Look at AACS.

    When I tinkered with BOINC I didnt observe that either (gave up on it).

    Wait. You get support with Microsoft products? :P

    IIS still doesnt have a decent mod_rewrite equivalent or stuff like that.
    Its a old style web server where it fetches the file you requested with dynamic support stuck on with duct tape.
    Modern web servers can do that and so much more.

    I agree. I'd have to be paid to use their products.

    Tell me whats different between the laser projector and a CRT.

    Its not spreading the light over the entire area.
    Its scanning giving full intensity to a small area for a fraction of a second.
    Our eyes do all the hard work for it.

    I thought the Wii was sold out everywhere and they can't make enough of them, not the Xbox. :P

    I think it will be more of a legal war than a technological war.
    Keep in mind that the only thing new about Silverlight is that its a new product.

    Ever used any Mozilla product?

    The entire program is XML and Javascript. Everything.
    There is the Gecko core which provides the ability to do various things, the code which actually does stuff is Javascript.

    Feels pretty fast to me. :)
    So fast you wouldnt guess that it wasnt hard coded like normal programs.

    Oh its in a sandbox. Thats ok then.

    So that only leaves two dozen XSS flaws and a sprinkling of sandbox buffer overflows to worry about.
