  1. O the irony.... on New Amazon Patent Cites Bezos Patent Reform · · Score: 1

hehe, open the US Patent office link, click the "Add to cart" button. See now the patent office has also violated the patent they've just granted to Amazon.

Now if only Amazon would sue the patent office out of existence it would all have been worth it.

hehe. Your really thinking of this the wrong way around...

What if we could remove internet explorer, notepad, solitaire etc. etc. etc. from windows xp so that we only have a windows kernel left to test against? There should be no reason to want to turn Linux into a monolithic kernel whereas I can think of quite a few reasons why windows should rather not have one. (A certain GDI jpg bug comes to mind.)

Remember the bugs counted was found in the Linux kernel as oppose to finding it in OSS. They're comparing it against Windows XP for lack of anything else Windows to compare it against. A kernel should not be full of features but rather give your "features" access to your hardware. Just my 2p.

The Windows XP code base includes all of the extraneous crap that gets bundled with and on top of the kernel.

Well thats the point isn't it. Windows uses a monolithic "kernel" which makes it huge in terms of features but not big on security/modularity. The real question should be that if we could get the windows kernel and only the windows kernel, how many bugs in comparison would that have?

Yes I did, they ignored me flat out. I even pointed them to the javascript that was not letting me use Firefox. But thats not even the issue really, the issue was that Firefox on windows worked fine, but they blocked me using Firefox from Linux!!!!.

Needless to say, I'm at a different bank now. Not because they don't support Firefox but because they didn't respond to my question on why I can't access the site from Linux.

I do agree that Newton discovered/invented a large part of our mathematics but when people mention Newton they always seem to forget that he didn't really think up everything out of thin air.

The story about him and Robert Hooke is quite and interesting one and makes you think about how much he actually did do. Robert Hooke did infact accuse Newton of plagiarism but the charge was dropped because Hooke didn't have proof of his own theory and made some assumptions on intuitive grounds.

Makes one think that if someone would now proof Einsteins theory of relativity, if they would then discredit Einstein for the discovery.

Maybe you typed wrong. ;-) I can confirm without any doubt that both versions 1.5.67 and 1.7.14 from the netgear site has these backdoors installed.

As a matter of fact it was me who found the 1.7.14 username and password and posted it to securityfocus after updating my firmware from 1.5.67(which I tested with the super username and password) to 1.7.14.

I did talk to a netgear support engineer yesterday and he didn't know what I was talking about, so now I'm still waiting to hear anything back from them.

I've just upgraded to the latest firmware. It is NOT FIXED!!!! They have simply gone and changed the username and password to something else. There is STILL a default superuser account with password.

(You can find it yourselve by just taking similiar steps as in the securityfoces article.)
