First off the USAF hasn't had an Air to Air gun kill since Korea, secondly, when we send jets up on CAP we don't just send them up with AIM-9's we also use AIM-120's, which use radar to home in on targets.
Sorry, but I have to disagree. I am one of the troops and believe me there really are people who are still anti-troops. Some people do still freak out when we try to do normal everyday things. I've been called freak, monster, murderer, nazi, and baby killer. Now I'm not saying a large portion of the population is anti-troops; for the most part people can separate between the war and the troops.
And it's no surprise that DOD will be uniformly blocking access to these sites, for several years it has been specifically forbidden by the regs to us DOD computers for personal use. By most accounts, Myspace, YouTube, and the like are all for personal use. In fact many bases already block these sites on their networks. And it isn't censorship either. The government is paying for that bandwidth for official use only. We can't have our networks go down because too many people are trying to read their personal e-mail or post videos online, for the military this is our job, this is what we do every day.
There are plenty of sources of information that the military can't spin. If we want to we can post on Myspace or YouTube from our personal machines. If you're in the desert then you can visit those sites from the computers in the MWR center (Morale, Welfare, Recreation Center) or from the internet cafe if the base has one.
I'm sorry, but I just have to comment on this. I'm active duty Air Force, and for a while I was working TDY with our Security Forces (our version of the MP's). When we did random vehicle searches they really were random. We were told every fifth vehicle, or every third, whatever, would be searched. And we followed that policy. Unless we were good friends with the person, or there was a reasonable cause for us to be suspicious. Before I worked with Security Forces I would get pulled over and "randomly searched" quite often, because I was causing reasonable suspicion.
Actually most of them are breaking away from a larger publishing house (Keenspot) in order to form this co-op. So in effect they're doing the opposite, they're providing some competition in the market.
Yeah, but after you've lived here a year everything under a hundred is nice and cool.
Seriously, I wear jeans until about one hundred degrees, and then I'll think about breaking out the shorts.
In the military the word warfighter seperates those who actually fight the wars out on the frontlines (the teeth) from those who support them (the tail).
And war is a way of life. We train and work so hard at killing because it is difficult, and because it is sometimes neccesary. But that doesn't mean we think there should be fighting 24/7. Soldiers know what war is, we see the horrors of it first hand, and it's our asses on the line. But sometimes it is neccesary.
Yeah there are monsters out there. That's the problem.
But it has also been American policy to fight force on force since the 1950's (and maybe even earlier- I'm not entirely sure). Tanks kill tanks, planes kill planes, subs kill subs (again, generally). Therefore it would seem pretty logical to me for monsters to kill monsters.
Now I don't know about you, but I don't work behind a desk or in an office; I'm in the military, my job is dangerous enough already. In the last year I've nearly been killed five times while working (and I've been stateside for the last year), and that was without people shooting at me. If you can find something that makes my job safer, I'm all for it.

When you ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY need it DESTROYED overnight... US Air Force!
Because nukes are like any other weapon. We've spent years and billions of dollars researching how to make them most effective. The genie is out of the bottle yes, but we haven't shown the world all the steps in how we got him out.
No matter what we want our equipment to be the most effective out there, no matter what. Being in the military I know that when I'm out there, I'm using the world's best equipment and gear, and personally I'd like to keep it that way.
