    Agreed. We already know how to establish trust. That is by being trustworthy. It is a system devised by nature, however clumsey or inefficeint it may be.     I may be short sighted, but the only practical application I can see is gaining trust where it hasn't been earned. This, by the way, isn't a new concept.

    Yes. Yes. Yes... Bureaucratic cowards! There are so many projects that have been snuffed because NASA feared negative PR in the event of failure. NASA is the Cathedral! However, the general population does view space travel as a bit of a frivolous thing and so its easy to sympathize with their plight. Here is one project that NASA killed that actually offered the possibility of interplanetary travel. Project Orion (projectorion.com doesn't seem to be around anymore.)

    I've read his essay "What you can't say". It set me on fire. I certainly recomend it. I found his ideas neither conservative nor liberal. Perhaps libertarian... He seemed to have the perspective of being outside looking in. His ideas were always well supported, expertly conveyd and seldom repeated. I will buy this book.
