I just think there was a reason that at the beginning there were serious qualifier for who could and could not vote. i.e., landowners had that right. When the mass populace is mediocre, we are all affected by it. When the mass populace is more easily swayed by shiny marketing than ideas, we who think and consider are affected.

For your #2, no party should be running or governing the election. that kind of bias is what ruins the "freedom" in voting. I wish our republic was so in the stricter sense of the word, I suppose.

I agree with you, I think. Perhaps there should be rules about who can vote? Maybe not as far as to say only landowners can vote - but maybe people with drivers licenses and high school diplomas and bank accounts...

Or mandatory IQ tests. maybe that would work. I don't think bias is that big of a deal, it's the lack of education that kills the system. Or perhaps more the lack of rational judgment.

Right. I saw the movie last weekend and while there was what could certainly come across as an ID slant (if you wanted to view that way), the point I thought was trying to be put to the forefront is that of free scientific questioning of new theories.

I thought the film did a decent job of making the case that this shouldn't be about religion - it should be about the scientific freedom to question any idea or theory.

I thought it was a bit extreme with the Nazi Germany imagery and stuff... that was probably a bit too far. The analogy of a witch hunt probably would have served them better. But the films opposition is waging a strong internet war - commenting on blogs, getting people to start their own... but these people are still doing the same thing - assuming they are correct and not actually participating in a dialogue. Just attacking. I think most intelligent people would rather see a dialogue and decide based on real evidence which side is right - and I think that goes for most anything.

The real problem is that science is continually trying to comment on the metaphysical/philosophical. I'm not sure that because some religious person subscribes to a certain idea (such as Intelligent Design) it automatically makes that idea invalid. I mean, there are plenty of religious people that believe Darwinian Evolution to be true and obviously that theory hasn't been invalidated.

I don't know, after every debate on TV or any statements I've heard elsewhere, he just comes across like an angry old man who wants attention -- and that's enough to turn me off from him. Consumers these days know or have a good idea of what DRM is all about. Many of them do not like it.

I'm not so sure about that second part. Millions of regular consumers download DRMed music from iTunes and the like everyday and don't seem to mind. Perhaps they don't like it, but their dislike is disproportionate to their love of media. Back when MS put DRM into WMP as the default rip/encode method for wma's... I can't tell you how many people I knew that had no idea, and really didn't care. So they filled their My Music folders with tons of locked down music (and sucky quality at that). If consumers don't like the idea of DRM, it certainly doesn't show in their usage patterns.
