I'm an engineer with degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The problem with Macs is that they're not friendly to the scientific community. Essential programs like AutoCAD, most finite element programs and circuit simulation programs are just not available to Macs. Thats why no one in the engineering field gives Macs much attention.
I'm a Computer/Electrical Engineer and all the computers we used in the lab for prototyping and research are PCs. However, I also produce music in a studio and all they use are Macs. Let me tell you one thing, artists are dumb as hell. They think algebra is hard. HaHa.. try a Digital Signals Processing(DSP) class. Sory if I offended anyone, but its true. Oh, yea if anyone here thinks Engineering isn't hard, go open an Engineering book and try to understand. My dad made that mistake and he's a medical doctor.
Execs from both Sony and Microsoft are right. Good games will rule the world and for the next generation the Xbox will win. XNA, Microsoft's new basic programming platform will make game creation for both Xbox and PCs almost parallel. The ability to creat games for 2 platforms(PC and Xbox) for the development price of one will make it a more attractive alternative. Plus, looking at the cell processer, as revolutionary as it is, seems to be a beast to code. This ontop the entry of Xbox2 a year earlier than PS3 will make it a hit.
I'm a music editor and we just got a new dual G5 in the recording studio because thats what redarded artists want to see. I guess its because of the pretty silver color and cheese grill looks. But slow it is. My 3ghz p4 shuttle XPC runs circles around the G5 using the same programs for music editing(protools). Can't believe we spent $3000 on the G5 while my shuttle XPC only costs me about $500.
