3) The price of a decent HDD or good video card is generally comparable or a little more then the initial purchase price of a console.
For example here is Australia a 9600pro is about 270 to 350 dollars where as the price of a PS2 Xbox or GC is 199 to 270.
4) You obviously dont like consoles, and to be honest that is fine I dont like pink donuts but I dont go around bitching about it.
