Even though this is a step in the right direction, all the actions proposed are easily manuvered around. They close a hotmail account, another one is opened. I like the ISP e-mail ban though. Another issue that will most likely develop is anyone who buys webspace has an option to set up a POP3 mailbox. I just finished buying 3 gigs worth of space, and as a bonus I was awarded unlimited POP3 accounts. The price per month of that space wasn't even that expensive (www.hostony.com). I admire these ISPs efforts to stop the spam, but in the end spammers will always find a way around every obstacle implemented to stop their spam.

Well from the average person's stand point, I can understand the lack of enthusiasm to attend these conventions. I am biased because my company pays for me to attend and all I do is have private demonstrations and meetings in the back rooms. So I recant my past statement because it only applies to the people who get in for free and are at a predisposition.

Although I partially agree with your comment, you can never replace a person to person meeting. Many companies who do major business insist on meeting with their clients to demo a product or discuss improvements/specification or purchasing information. As someone once said, the world is getting smaller. Many people say that before long, you won't ever need to leave your house to work, shop for things, interact. In my opinion though you can't replace in-person interaction...

  6. Wow on Comdex Canceled For 2004 · · Score: 5, Interesting

That is interesting, it was cancelled 2 years ago, but was brought back almost a month after its cancellation. I have always looked forward to Comdex and are personally downtrodden that it is gone(for now anyway). Budget issues are always a problem when it comes to huge conventions such as Comdex, Networld Interop, and Brainshare. Renting out a convention center and providing programs and conferences for the attendees can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Especially with times being as they are, I can understand why this event might have been cancelled even though the press release did not cover the reason...

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated. That information was disclosed to the airlines willingly, with full knowledge of the implications of the disclosure. As I restate, no where in the IV amendment does it say that it protects against unlawful disclosure of personal information.

This news most definately has online gamers cheering. Now it won't be just the dedicated servers that have low-latency. My only concern is...cost. Speed like that doesn't come cheap, making this new network pretty expensive on the grounds of a monthly fee. I would be willing to pay it if the speeds are guaranteed and the bandwith is acceptable.

Mz6 makes a very good and valid point. I can't say I blame the airlines though. Bad times plus the chance for a law suit sure would make me put all my cards on the table. I am amazed however by how many people think that they have a right to privacy. Unfortunately, no where is it written in the Constitution or any other civil documents that individuals are entitled to privacy.

Actually life in space could be quite pleasant. Low crime, pleasant real-estate, incredible view. Now that we have sucessfully been able to grow plants in space, I figure its only a matter of time before we manage to get animals to reproduce. Waste management would be efficient, incinerate all the trash in a controlled enviroment, then vent the smoke, gases into space. My only qualm would be if the odds for survival were below 40%...
