And sometimes when things are going to get 'rough' they turn off the cameras or put other squad cars in the camera field of vision to defeat the recording.

Yep. Remember when that guy in New Orleans got beat up by cops and an AP videographer caught it on tape? Some cop on a horse kept moving between the cameraman and the victim so he couldn't be seen getting his ass kicked by police. The guy on the horse should have lost his job just for that.

Here's the guy that got beaten up. Here's the video footage from the BBC web site.

The Duality of Slashdot never ceases to amuse me. People who help others get copyrighted material without paying for it and then get busted are worshiped as martyrs. But if someone dares violate the GPL, those same Slashdotters rise up and demand the heads of everyone involved on a silver platter.
In case you haven't figured it out Slashdot is just a huge link farm to stories on the net. There are tens of thousands of active users here all with their differing opinions. Many of the users disagree on various matters, including copyright.

It amazes me that more of you don't run for public office...you've got the "talking out of both sides of mouth" and "double standards" parts well covered.
You'd have a point if you could narrow that down to individual users that say one thing about one subject and then change their minds on the GPL. But from looking at your post you haven't done that. You can't characterize all of Slashdot as a singular entity.

Thinking about how easy these scanners are to fool, someone should create a fingerprint patch and supply a copy to everyone in town. It'll look like one guy goes drinking way too much. It'd be even better if the finger print was of some semi-important or visible offical who's in favor of this legislation. I'm thinking about how the Mythbusters people lifted a fingerprint from a can and used that to create a fake fingerprint to fool a scanner.

What's cheap to you? Obviously you want something that's going to be less expensive than replacing a dead server or replacing your data.

If you are in an ex-residential space then there is most likely a garage or utility room/closet that you can use for things such as your network switch, telephone, PBX, servers, etc. Why not put your server there and install a small air conditioner.

I have a friend who runs a small business out of his home. He uses a spare bedroom as an office and made the bedroom closet his server room. He installed a split-unit air conditioner to keep the closet cool.
