While I have no question about mucus humans produce when attacked by the cold, I wonder whether that slimy stuff snails produce is called mucus as well.
For one thing, it's the reason I will never [consciously] eat snails. In fact, snails in my culture, are regarded as 'dirty' creatures.
Here's why: Lawyers being what they are, will bicker over what exactly a mathematical formula is.
I will never forget an incident where in the recent Oracle vs Google case, Oracle's side tried to change the facts about a memory reference being symbolic or otherwise. Mind you, this was an expert! It was pathetic!
Subsequently, the court shot down Oracle's position with this piece.
The foregoing is sufficient but it is worth adding that Oracle's infringement case was presented through Dr. Mitchell. A reasonable jury could have found his many "mistakes" in his report merely to be convenient alterations to fix truthful admissions earlier made before he realized the import of his admissions. For this reason, a reasonable jury could have rejected every word of his testimony.
While Android malware that masks itself as an antivirus for Google's platform is nothing new, and neither are ads in Android apps pushing malware, but putting the two together can certainly be effective. This is naturally a practice that Windows users are all too familiar with."
Ahh Slashdot! I guess Windows was mentioned in order to create a "me too" effect. That is, that Android is just like "any other" system; especially one that has been around for a while.
To put it better: Nothing new, which saves Android, right?
I employ Debian as an email/web server platform. What I've always missed is a command line tool I can use to set these services up without any graphical interface. A wizard to handle the hops would be awesome.
Now, before you label me a troll, let me mention that I loathe the GUI. And as a server described above, I surely don't need it.
If these incidents happened in the so called "third world" or even in other jurisdictions, folks in the mighty USA would be saying somethig to the effect: -
"We're are better than them..."
"We've got more mature credible sysytems and established procedures..."
That's the beauty of living in a country like America..."
Plus all the rest of the verbiage that normally follows...
Quick Office standing a chance? I'm sorry to say but Google isn't known to be a good executor. Besides, if Microsoft maintains the speed of its suite's ever moving file formats, Google's suite doesn't stand a chance.
While I applaud the programmer's efforts, I must say that it's efforts like these in the Open Source Community, that end up as wasted!
You see, everyone who is talented, ends up "doing their thing," resulting in duplication and waste. One wonders why the talent of this programmer doesn't get absorbed into the larger KDE project. What would the harm be?
Hello Slashdotters, I'm looking for the code to implement features of this now invalidated patent. I know we have hackers who can output this code fast and I know I'm not alone.
Gartner shows just how important the mobile market has become. According to the firm's estimates for 2013, Apple devices will outsell Windows devices for the first time this year.
Although Gartner isn't on top of my list when it comes to sources of reliable information, Microsoft's next strategy meeting will be heated to a degree. I guarantee that.
My advice to those who'll participate in that meeting:
Spare some energy to flee as the chair of previous such meetings has been known to throw furniture around. Some call it environmental destruction.
I guess I didn't make myself clear...Let me rephrase:
If you destroy your 1st Android phone and obtain a second one, there's no way of removing any reference to the 1st phone from Google Play. Or is there? I have 7 devices listed, six of which I no longer own. How do I prevent them (the six I no longer use), from getting listed on Google Play? Got it?
And, while the Android method and class names could have been different from the names of their counterparts in Java and still have worked, copyright protection never extends to names or short phrases as a matter of law.
I'm sure folks at Google are filled with anxiety. You see, with Microsoft as a Facebook investor and Android being "open", Google products could be replaced with Microsoft's very easily. And that can't be good. Remember, we're addressing over a billion human beings at Facebook.
Why isn't there an audio of this interview? This should be routine now. While I appreciate efforts to provide this dialogue, I hope the author(s) don't expect that folks will always want to read through all the verbiage.
I would have been able to listen to the interview while on my way to work. But thanks anyway and sorry, I had to get this off my chest.
*.DOC(X) is not just he most universally accepted format for word processing documents, it's the most universally EXPECTED format for word processing documents.
But I remember IE was in this exact position not many years ago. Heck, you could hardly "get anywhere" around the web without hitting so called "IE only" sites. What happened in this case?

...You're dealing with human beings, and human beings make mistakes.
That's why.

Oracle lost the case - For now.
...but I've failed on this front!
Question is: What am I not getting?
Eventually, they're actually going to have to tell Motorola/Google (and everyone else) exactly what the patents are..
I can't wait! But haven't they done so already by suing Motorola?

the next incarnation of Microsoft's flagship operating system will have an option to boot directly to the desktop.
The lessson appears to be that much as you can force a horse to the well, you can't force it to drink.
Question is: Hasn't this lesson come rather late?

Question is: Am I wrong?
An Android product would make more of a difference, what with the current approx 2:1 ratio in favour of Android usage on smartphones.
Trouble is, most folks on Android are known to loathe "paying for any software." So what they do is to pirate .

Google should "beat" Samsung into line. In other wprds, Google should pressure Samsung to "toe the line" or else...
Just like it did to Acer when it (Acer), was attempting to flirt with China's AliyunOS.

While referring to getting all data erased.
'Problem is, even if you do everything right, there can still be lots of personal data left behind.
Wouldn't that mean you just didn't do everything right? Huh?
Google doesn't help matters by providing no avenue for de-linking one's no-longer-owned device from an existing [Google Play] account. Sad.
And, while the Android method and class names could have been different from the names of their counterparts in Java and still have worked, copyright protection never extends to names or short phrases as a matter of law.
That's it. Who disagrees?

'My home is being traded for Bitcoins!'
My first thought was:
This fella needs some form of psychiatric evaluation. Question is, am I alone?
On the other hand,
The property is listed for $405,000 CDN, but More writes that 'the price can be reduced" if a buyer has some Bitcoins to spare.'"
What could prevent the fella from accepting $404,999 CDN and getting the difference in Bitcoins? He must be playing around with our intelligence.
Finally..."touch down for common sense."

Why won't this arrangement work on an Office Suite?
That's the question.
If you can't see the video (or want to read along) the transcript is below.
Where? If I may ask? Are we engaged in some kind of mediocrity?
