  1. Re:Options? on Creating A Virtual Office? · · Score: 2, Informative

Not a problem for me or a number of other employees within our company both in Europe and the US. Admittedly I do travel into the office 1 week out of 8, but I may not necessarily be there for the whole week it may only be a couple of days. I've been working from home for over 4 years. My trips to the office weren't always so organised and I could go months without popping in. Others will only rarely appear in the office.

Last year the company installed a VOIP system in the UK (the US already used one) which is used throughout the office as well as those of us working remotely. Prior to that I either claimed calls made on my own phone or used a company mobile phone. We've always used IM for keeping in contact with each other. We did think about setting up video conferencing but it never really got anywhere. I'm not sure it is an ideal solution for an entire office though and do like to be able to visit the office now and again. Like others have said, finding some smaller/cheaper office space might be the better option.

Thank you evilviper, you've given me a head start on some investigative work I need to carry out. I need to whack linux on an old box for my folks (all they need is email, a bit of browsing and some word processing) and given I've been out of the linux loop for a while had lost track of what was going on and I didn't want to have to stick Windows 98 back on that box.

I've been using Firefox to watch mlb.tv all year. Ditto That aside, mlb.tv is still crap. This was my first year with it, and it's likely going to be the last. Extra Innings, if you have that option (digital cable or satellite), is more expensive, but much better. Admittedly the quality isn't great, but it's cheaper for me to use this that subscribe to NASN here in the UK. We do have two games a week (1 live on a Sunday night/Monday morning and 1 with a delay on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning) on channel 5 on terrestrial telly. Given that I'm a Jays fan MLB.tv is the only reliable way for me to see a live or recorded game. Oh and showing the adverts would annoy me a lot less than the same music over and over, although I've noticed they sometimes forget on the feed.

For on occasion read all the time. There is a saying that if you don't like the weather hang around for 5 mins. Today in Edinburgh we've had glorious sunshine, rain and hailstones.

Got a bit further than that. But it seems you'll have to buy the mag to see the full details.
