A lot of the complaints are simply "it doesn't work exactly the same as it did before" variety
At least that is the myth that people tell themselves when they want to think change is inherently good. The real reason is that we left the era of crappy UIs with no discoverabilty behind decades ago. The change that people don't like is being forced back into the stone age. People LOVE change that makes things better.
Corporations have not all already switched. Many have, but I still see XP running in companies all the time. Particularly in places that are not general office work. Doctor's offices, hospitals, kiosks, etc.
A huge number of XP machines are essentially kiosks in businesses. Go to your local hospital. It is likely that their entire system is running on XP. The cost of moving their system to Windows 7 is huge. It is the same reason that banks don't rewrite all of their banking solutions onto a more modern platform. I see XP running scoring systems for bowling allys. I see it in dentist offices. I see it in Target. (Of course, their recent security problems is likely more of a cautionary tale in that regard)
You keep comparing apples to oranges. Religious fundamentalists do not try to get laws to force you to go to their church just as people who go to Whole Foods don't try to get laws forcing you to shop at Whole foods. Whole Foods shoppers DO try to get laws passed that force you to abide by the tenets of the Whole Foods canon, just as religious fundamentalists try to get laws passed that force you to abide by the tenets of their canon.
Your shunning of christian crazy while being an apologist for the Whole Foods crazy is exactly the point of the article.
Of course they do. In the same way that the creationist museum does. Neither of them send employees in uniform to kick down your door, tie your children to a chair and use toothpicks to force their eyes open while playing propaganda films. They both cater to a customer base that has their delusional belief system bolstered by the existence of the business. These people then push their agenda on politicians and schools.
My guess is that they do do the dilutions. The cost of doing it is negligible while offering legal protection that you would lose if you skipped the step.
I find the anti-anti-vaccine crowd to be just as dumb. Instead of pointing the 'anti-vaxers' to the study that the movement is based on, and pointing out the part where Wakefield did not say that "Vaccines" cause autism. He said that "A" vaccine caused autism, and recommended an alternative vaccine schedule, they crow on about how stupid the "anti-vaxers" are. All the while helping to push the movement forward so that they can get a sense of fulfillment in being "smarter" than other people.
Of course they will declare anyone who skips a single questionable vaccine to be a murder who should have their children taken away from them. All the while being ignorant of the fact that their child is more than 3 times more likely to die from a home cooked meal than they would be from every single person on the planet, including their own child, skipping the chicken pox vaccine. And that is a best case scenario for the chicken pox vaccine. The worst case is that infection is only delayed into adulthood where the risk of death is an order of magnitude greater.
Just require a US citizen as a trainee to shadow each H1B workers at an equal salary. Even if the company had to hire US workers at 50% greater cost than an H1B, it would still mean that US workers would bring a cost savings. Since the argument for H1Bs is that there are no qualified US workers, it would also work towards satisfying the stated goals of the H1B visa program better than the current system, as it would increase the number of qualified US citizens.
The solution to the H1B visa problem is pretty easy. The argument for H1Bs is that there are no American candidates qualified for the job. So, just require that every H1B visa worker be shadowed by an equally paid US citizen for the purpose of training. Make rules that require the trainee to not produce any production work.(including R&D work that goes to production)
This would leave companies open to hire all the H1Bs they want without putting US workers out of work. It would reduce the long term need for H1Bs, as very quickly, there would be qualified US citizens. And, it would give the company an incentive to get those US workers trained as quickly and effectively as possible because, it would dramatically reduce their payroll by replacing H1Bs with local workers.
With a system like that, you could pretty much do away with any H1B quotas.
I have found that looking younger tends to be less about Diet, Drugs, Smoking and Alcohol usage. I find that it has more to do with stress. The reason that it looks like people to do a lot of drugs, smoke and drink a lot age faster is because there is a huge correlation between the said activities and high stress lifestyles.
Our insurance plays the 'New Speak' game. They don't 'charge you more' when they don't like the results of your mandated yearly physical. They just 'don't offer you the discounts' that they offer to people who's test results they do like.
Exactly. This conditioning starts at birth and is pressed for our entire lives. You can also add to that the fact that boys are raised being told that they MUST get a good job if they want anything but a life of destitution because no one is going to pay your way through life. Girls are raised being told that they CAN get a good job, but they could also choose to attach themselves to a man who got a good job.
I have no doubt that if I grew up knowing that I would have women offering to pay my way through life just so that they could attach themselves to me, I might not have worked nearly as hard.
Apple is no more evil than they ever were. Apple has always tried to be an abusive monopoly. That is part of why they have never gained any real market share with their computers. They had a hit with iOS, but even that brief time of market dominance is washing away due to the same kind of behavior that they have always exhibited.
Apple has always tried to be a far more abusive monopolist than MS. Apple just never understood that you can't effectively be an abusive monopoly when you don't control the majority of the market.
I would go one step farther and say that it isn't just that no one believes sexism exists, but that a large part of the problem is that many people believe that sexism doesn't exist in women. Humans are tribal. They form groups and get aggressive to those that are outside of them. What this leads to is for sexists to default blame for any exclusion on men.
It is possible that women are not welcome at these events due to mail prejudice. It is also possible that women don't go because they don't want to be around men do to their own prejudices while men would love to have them. It is also possible that from the time of birth, girls are tough that they can choose to compete in predominantly male domains, but that they can also choose to rely on being a girl to have things handed to them on a silver platter while boys are thought from the birth that they will need to compete and win anything of value that they get in life. Including women. It is possible that as adults, the gender is an effect of humans being split between those who have been raised with the ever present push to compete for resources vs. those that have not. There are other possibilities of course, but until men AND women start being seen as human, you can't tell if there is a problem, or if the problem isn't something that happened 20 year ago.
If what you claim were true, Netflix would not work. The fact that I use Netflix every day proves that the space isn't the issue. Phone lines were even more limited in frequencies and they did just fine in the dial up days when distribution and "generation" were separate.
That being said, separating "distribution" and "generation" is not the end all be all solution. "Cable" as we know it is on it's last legs. TV is moving from frequencies/channels to IP. Worrying about "Cable" is like worrying about the buggy whip manufacturers getting a government granted monopoly on the automobile. What we need is to kill the monopolies on running data lines into the home, and separate content providers from distribution in the internet arena.
You don't count support of a product you buy from the day the product became available on the shelves. You count it from the day you bought it.

My favorite line is the "Dehydrated sugar cane juice".

You must not live in California....
Of course they try to up-sell you. Have you never been to Amazon's site?
The creationists don't try to get laws passed to stop you from learning about evolution or possible origin of life theories.

That is a fact that is missed on most people.
Two generations and the population of the Earth would be horrified by the idea of it not being there.
