Dude that's not a third leg , notice all the female monkeys running from him ? The radiation has obviously made him very well endowed , but not liked. Go figure ! Guess sizes does matter and it can be too big.
You know maybe finally by some stroke of genious , MS realized the real money is not in selling the OS but the apps that lay on top of the OS.
Linux for years now has become a server competitor , unix was the main server os for awhile , and small servers are dominated by windows. Maybe they finally got the hint that their os is insecure by nature.
I would love to see a windows rewrite from the ground up. Completely based on security and some of the fundamentals that make windows so easy to use. It is possible that this is what they are doing. Getting into these companies can mean that MS has access to many briliant minds who may not be windows fans. It's easier to embrace the companies these folks work for and get the company paying them on your side , then it is to go after each developer.
I actually like when all these companies play nice together. It helps to develop better software. We just may see a new version of windows that may play well with linux/unix and be able to hold its own weight in the high end / high availability server market.
On linux FUSE is all we can use because of the license restrictions. I use it on a Solaris box with a vmed red hat install it's not quite ready for prime time. And the licensing sucks because it won't get put into the kernel.
Which I find really deplurable , I would love to have it in the kernel.
And yeah id like an ifs driver but none exist;) yet and I don't see any intent internally to even attempt it. as it stand I think I am maybe 1 of 8 people using ZFS on linux here. And that is only in the VM.
Their new 10.5 servers will probably be closely related to some products in the Sun stable at the moment. With a successful launch this could help start reversing the trend of server dominance.
If mac starts adding more aspects of unix to the OS and gives it a pretty interface , windows small business server markets could be in trouble. I would personally like to see more of these boxes around.
as a worker at sun and having used ZFS and playing with it constantly , it is a good File system , I appreciate the little things it has and it has brought data stability to a whole new level. I think personally that this will be a defining moment for ZFS , it will be linux ready soon ( at the same level of stability that the mac will enjoy ) and it will take off and become more of a standard for unix and linux boxes.
To bad no windows port is available. It would be nice to see my unix drives from windows.
Id rather have my son view porn then go banging every girl he can without a condom and possibly losing his chance at life. Or better yet him going freaking nuts like they did in Colombine.
When my kids ask about sex I tell them the straight up honest truth. You can only protect your kids so much , you have to let them live their lives and hope you tough them well enough to make good decisions through out their lives. You can protect the children only so long , you need to teach them from a young age to think of the consequences of their actions.
Anything other then being a good parent is just plain and utter garbage.
Why should I , it's my laptop not hers. I hate extra clutter , that is why I use linux. I don't have to see 9000 menu entries for the crap that I installed;)
as an alternative to windows "notepad" try pico from a command line. It's a lot easier then vi. I actually usually install pico on every box I manage , I hate vi with a passion.
And if its opening as read only then try sudo before the command or even su and login to the root user to edit the file. The major problem is if the file is protected , it's protected for a reason , so try to make a back up of the file before you actually edit it.
I usually just cp filename.ext filename.ext.bak and just incase i hose something I can restore my bak file.
Linux isn't hard , just has some stumbling blocks.
It would be nice to see a centralized area for editing conf files and such so that it can be done via gui and a place to add the programs you compile to the programs menu , that second one is the most complained about item I see.
I put Fedora on my laptop , my wifes lappy died (bad hard drive, damn crappy HP), she jumped on my laptop , not an issue booted it up and used it to do most of her work. When I told her she had to drop to a command line to launch a custom compiled media player she said "a what ?" I explained it to her and she did it , when the player crashed she said I am not going to that text thing again I don't remember what to type.
As she is not a power user I have a feeling that is another stumbling block for linux and getting the average user onto it. They don't want to type, they want it easy and just point and click.
I don't want this to come off as a flame but it may or at least it may come off as a troll but here goes.
As a unix\linux\windows admin who spent a great deal of time in a windows\linux environment, I find windows to be more difficult to secure. Unix and linux have certain things layered well for my way of thinking.
Common driver locations , common binary locations , no registry that people can bury crap into to auto load stuff. Having to assume everybody who uses the ms machine is an idiot and lock them down in the Ad profile versus the user being told basically your stupid and you can't mess up this system without a major effort. The one thing I usually don't like is not every program loads the config files to a specific folder. I would love to see that but it probably wouldn't happen.
Windows admins are a dime a dozen for a reason , it's easy to find some people who claim to know what they are doing. Not so easy in the unix or linux worlds. But I do believe in using the right OS for the job that needs to be done , and usually that MS for the desktop and Solaris or linux for the servers.
I tried it once , sadly it ended in many painful days to follow.
I could never understand why so many old ladies would just walk up to me and kick me in the groin. It was a rather traumatic moment in my life I would like to forget.
I use Gnome and it is really solid. especially if you build it yourself. Or use apt-get and the "solaris" blastwave repository. With solaris apt-get and adding it its great.
You using the java desktop ? or you using CDE ?
I strip out the JDE and use stripped down gnome , you can use KDE as well with a little work. I work on these boxes all day long with custom java tools that are slow as sin at times and not multithreaded since they are OLD and this box flies.
Sun Ultra 40 running both Windows XP 64 and Solaris x86 , (disclaimer: I work at Sun) I run this box with 16 gigs of ram. I had 8 last time I booted to windows. And it still swapped out even with the kernel paging executive tweak.
Absolutely great system for everything but windows. Windows seems to drag it down.
I suppose Iraqi as long as they keep churning out the gallons of oil so little lei fong hoo in china can drive the 2008 hummer h2 threw the vast wasteland that china is becoming with all the pollution from thier "industrializing" economy ?
Well look at New Hampshire , no sales tax. And for gods sake it has become a total state of anarchy. I mean people hunting for animals , low cost homes , and for god's sake they actually have people making a living !
Oh jesus help them , god , and baby jesus please help them.
exactly , but holding the little guys down who can't seem to get heads above water is what this government wants to do, they seem to like spreading the middle class to rich gap more while closing the poor to middle class gap.
mod you down ? I wish I had points I'd mod you up to +5 insightful , Bigger government is almost always a bad thing. Except of course if your one of the priveledged few who have enough money to get into office yourself.
Isn't it ironic how every presidential candidate as of late has always been a millionaire or better ? Why do we never see the little guy actually trying to get into office ? It's not that we are not bright enough it's that we are to busy trying to provide for our family under the overtaxed thumb of this big government. Let us just vote in a king and let it be done with. The US empire will fall sooner or later like the romans and many great empires before our time did. We certainly are patterning ourselves after many of them.
What if I were to purchase a widget from your for the sum of $500, you being from canada must pay canada , canada local , canada business taxes , us , and us local taxes on the item. That is getting taxed 5 times. Thats an awful lot of cost to add to a unit. Or get this you make less on your widget sale. So you jack up your rates and now you cost double the local widget stores cost. You my friend are now out of business and working in the local coal mine to make enough money to feed your new found widget addiction!
In the current system, I buy said widget , widget comes to me you pay a tax on the money you made from the sale of the widget. I get lower costs , you get a return on your widgets and your kids grow up in a nice school where they won't get hooked on widgets and turn to prostitution to feed their ever growing widget addiction. Plus your government made a couple pennies on money you made and you didn't feed into the war machine that is these United States.
Now little George can't go spending on his $300 billion war because it puts the US in the hole (what was I thinking he would do it anyway). But your also taking the money out of our rep's pockets and helping him , by actually making him stick to what his constituents say , because he can't go and vote himself a new raise every 3 months if there is no money to do so.
You see it all works out in the end. Our governemt gets less funding so they must use the money wisely , your country gets a little more money from the US and gets a nice little fusion in your city. A win , win for everybody except the government who gets lets money to go on tyranical war mongering raids.
Dude that's not a third leg , notice all the female monkeys running from him ? The radiation has obviously made him very well endowed , but not liked. Go figure ! Guess sizes does matter and it can be too big.

Rather have my daughter viewing porn and understanding that it's not real and she doesn't have to be treated like that , then have her gearing up to go blow 5 guys in a school locker room after a game./ 20/milton_academy_rocked_by_expulsions/

Yeap , but she is a normal user and always goes to the programs menu. Believe it or not it's the little things that bug normal users away from linux.
i myself don't mind a little typing.

Let's face it ! Nothing will run vista.
Dad ?
News flash ! Any females that meet that criteria ARE virgins.
As for me , give me a dirty girl every day of the week over a virgin , them dirty girls know how to work it !

No way ! They did thier expenses in Vista ultimate with Office 2007 and a gig of ram , naturally everything is slow to come out.
It's windows , even with 8 gigs of ram , it still swaps.
Never quite understood that one though.
Yeah but who's on first ?

They seem to be getting by up there fine.
exactly , but holding the little guys down who can't seem to get heads above water is what this government wants to do, they seem to like spreading the middle class to rich gap more while closing the poor to middle class gap.
Very upsetting to say the least.

History doomed to repeat itself.
Well here in lies the issue.
