how did this article receive a "4" ?!?! all the guy did was write one sentence, quote an article and bold "catastrophic!!" give me a break. the author of the article made it informative, not the slashdotter. where are the meta-moderators?!

i'm pretty sure apple doesn't have a secret laboratory at 1 Infinity Loop. but i do agree our mutual friends at 1 Infinite Loop have an x86 trick up their sleeve. yes, i nitpick, Sosumi.

hmmm. it makes me laugh that apple has a big to-do over an operating system 3 or 4% of computer users in the world use, and you get shit-talking from both A) supporters from another operating system with about the same percentage of users(or slightly higher, depending on how saucy the linux user is feeling that you pose the question to at the time) or B) the other 90% of computer users

i think the mac community is growing quite nicely and is a heterogeneous mix of unix geeks, old skool mac geeks, and creative weirdos. this unique mix of users will drive the mac in a different direction than the 1 dimensional linux and windows crowd are heading. that's why they will all talk shit i guess.

i for one hope the macintosh never rises above 10% market share. you worry about your viri, malware and flaky web browser. i'll accept the fact my third-party software arrives a few months late or not at all. i am stoked to see apple implement new ideas and features in their os when ms is still talking about them in the constantly moving future tense.

have fun with softpear, mr. patience.

"This is true, I grant you. However it's also a pretty thin argument, as several other music stores (all selling WMA) are in existance. Online music sales is fast becoming a booming industry."

exactly. that gives individuals an increasing choice in the matter. an ipod purchaser claiming ignorance that he's locked-in (and he isn't) to buying tracks from itunes for his ipod would hardly stand up in court, methinks. especially when there are legal methods to transfer most drm restricted to an ipod and aac's to other devices. how can that stand up in court?

apple makes one (or three depending on your definition :) )product. there are dozens of other companies promoting hundreds of other devices compatible with real's and microsoft's and insert your company's name here drm. i cannot see this guy getting any more than his 15 minutes of fame from this lawsuit.

yes, but there is probably much less money to be made on selling music at 99cents a pop compared to the profit margin of selling an ipod. plus, when apple sells an ipod, there is that (slight) chance that the customer might purchase a mac later on. the bottom line is that apple does not have a monopoly. that is the key factor in this doomed lawsuit. they are one company out of dozens selling songs online. if you don't like apple telling you that's the way they do business, go buy a rio or iriver player and have your pick of other online music retailers.
