so they filed a patent. apple files patents all the time - what ever happened to the one they filed about the touchless click wheel? http://www.redherring.com/Article.aspx?a=17738&hed =Apple+Ponders+a+Touchless+iPod
a filing like this does not mean it is the end of the road for the click wheel. the click wheel has brought apple a ton of revenue and one patent filing will not change all that.
nothing to get excited about here.
seriously, as ryu i would block all that and throw some mean ass jumpkicks and roundhouses at ken. he'd go down like... well, ken does. it is common knowledge ken is really a lactose-intolerant girl orangatang dressed as a homo-erotic, bleached-blonde beach boy (i'm keen on alliteration). as such, his/her reaction time cannot keep up with ryu's awe-inspiring, blue-fire-generating power.
seriously dude, preach on. ryu is the shit and all others are his bitches. my friend deon can kick my ass when he uses dhalsim sometimes, but usually we end up with slivers of health or double ko. street fighter is such a great game, i can't wait to play it online.
in places where there are large numbers of conservative americans (coincidently also the same places you find large numbers of conservative christians) you are going to see kids influenced by the church, which is notoriously narrow minded about social issues. you seem like a fairly open-minded individual, i don't think he meant to single you out. you just happen to live in an area where the majority of people fall into this category.
the rest of the country has their own problems, but sheltered kids is a symptom of the culture of the bible belt.
it is ridiculous you need to request a provider take you off their email blacklist. it seems to me they need to bend over backward if they inconvenience their customers to this extent. you know, i would bitch for a free month of service.
fantastic use of "problem" too. it drives the point home.
"I warned her that VZ has a public relations problem but she was too clueless to understand." Many users have submitted this problem so it seems to be a pretty far reaching problem. There is also a discussion going on over at Google about this problem."
who's getting-black listed here? mccarthyism doesn't have anything to do with this. he had a select list of do-badders. bush is saying anyone who disagrees with him supports terrorism. these are two seperate situations.
...to get a wireless keyboard with a modified case that sits comfortably on your lap to market? i hope infinium sticks around a little longer, as the stories about them just keep getting more and more entertaining. if all slashdotters pitched in $5, think of the ammo we would have in the comment section for months to come! go infinium! go infinium!
i guess it is a classic platformer. if you're not into those, then it may not be a classic to you. both EJ1 and EJ2 had some of the most bizarre enemies and silly weapons how can it not be considered a classic? hell, the instruction manual for EJ2 should be on display at the smithsonian.
pdf's are editable. not just through adobe's software, but 3rd party apps like pitstop. and personally, i have edited dozens of pdf forms. by the way, nearly all documents are printable. pdf's are great because they print the same no matter what app created it or what app you are viewing it in. (for the most part anyway) i agree that unipage is not a pdf replacement, though. i hope the text editors out there allow for a "save as unicode" option, as that may allow for a little more competition against word.
just because you don't utilize all your bandwidth everyone else shouldn't either?? that is ridiculous. i pay for a certain amount of bandwidth. my isp and i agreed that for X amount of dollars, i get Y amount of access to the network. the issue is now i am not allowed to utilize the bandwidth because my isp (and apparently some of my my fellow slashdotters)thinks i should not be able to fully utilize what i pay for? sorry, coleco, but why don't you tea-totalling broadband users agree to paying less for weaker service or go back to dial up if that is all you need?
and stop this nonsense about warez. there are plenty of legit services that require large file transfers - free OS downloads or digital art for commercial printing are just two that i deal with.
ok, i'll admit it: i bought an atari lynx and a jaguar when they came out. i root for the underdog, almost to the point of throwing away money on inferior stuff. (i still play the lynx sometimes... i know, i know...) i am always looking for that hidden gem of a game or some advanced feature the other guys hadn't thought about just to expand my horizons.
however, those early hard-ocp articles http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NTEy/
really drove home the point that i and the rest of the gaming world should stay very far away from this company and their product. this is just more icing on the cake. add to that they probably won't ship the phantom until after the PS3 and revolution come out, and there is no reason to even consider their console. at least their trainwreck story will live on long after the hardware/gaming service is forgotten.
i agree. i can get around with no problems in osx and windows, but i get stuck when performing mundane tasks like trying to download and install an application in linux. in windows/osx its a matter of download, uncompress, double click the binary. voila. if something like this trips up a quasi-advanced computer user like me, imagine what grandma and grandpa would do in that scenario?
linux is almost there. the installation is easy, and the apps that come with distros like ubuntu nearly cover the gamut. but it still needs the UI polish that MS and Apple put into their systems. once that gets the attention it needs, the *nixes will be more viable alternatives.
i use a mac because it just works. if i could get that out of a free *NIX distro, i'd jump ship in a hurry.
boy am i glad that somebody is out there looking out for our kids. that leaves me more time to go about other things, like watching tv. thanks yahoo and eliot spitzer! one day you will both be able to rest easy knowing you saved the children.
"Indeed, your typical NeXTSTEP- or Motif/CDE-inspired theme often allows for the most productivity, with the minimal amount of confusion."...for a computer scientist. i think this is more for non-elite power users, and people like grandma. remember: don't player hate, investigate.
the focus is on productivity with the windows and macos interfaces too, probably moreso than the free desktops and their themes. apple spends a ton on research for this type of stuff, and i am pretty sure microsoft does too. i suspect you'd be happier in front of a cli than any gui anyway.
i am all for flair in an os, and i think as graphics get better, so should the cool effects. we are using computers, for pete's sake! they are supposed to look cool! and all the bubbly options on my mac that waste screen real estate are easily toggled off.
and, i distinctly remember linux distros for PPC (I think LinuxPPC, actually) that had the most ridiculously cool watery window reflection visual that devoured RAM and did nothing useful except entertain me. maybe that is more of a gnome or kde thing than linux per se, but you get the point. as long as you can turn them off, i am pro-them. if you have the resources, why not?
besides, this new agreement won't do much. there will be someone else in linux-land who will make an alternative to this new scheme and neither will end up the standard, and the whole linux platform will remain pretty much the same as it is now.
install it, then you can telnet into the ipod from your computer at home if you want to type.
on the go, it really is similar to the ipod interface, aside from the small, notcieable ideosyncrosies, it almost doesn't even feel like linux. ipod linux is one of the cooler things i've done with my ipod.
i'm not a huge linux fan, but this is one of the coolest applications of linux i have seen.

well done.
not to mention it was developed by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University.

my 2 cents
the shortsighted me says horray for only having to pay $.99 a song still. i don't listen to the farsighted me.
it could just be the wiid talking, but i think the new name is totally fantastic.

damn! beat me to it. oh well, at least it's going to a good home.
please - keep it shiny.

...on their wicked cool logo!
Control Group, you get major ups for that one. i don't think many here recognizes your brilliance though.
woot!
cheers,

word up to that, i've always wanted a sequel to harry the handsome executive!

i think neooffice/j does include support for unicode text: http://neowiki.sixthcrusade.com/index.php/NeoOffic e/J_Feature_Comparison/
and abi word isn't ready yet. i like their UI better, but it slaughters ms word files when you open them.
