I just want it to play with friends who play the game, so I should be able to find matches, and we're all in the UK, possibly same ISP, so lag shouldn't be too much of a problem. But thanks for the advice.
You've answered yourself, if it's just a couple of hundred quid then go to the small claims court. And I'd expect them to fold at the threat of legal action, because if they've shipped a faulty product they haven't got a leg to stand on.
I'd like to get it but don't shop online (I know, I know, I'm being a fool), and I haven't been able to find it anywhere, even second hand. It looks like it was never released on Sold Out or Xplosiv or anything like that. Anyone know if there are plans to do any sort of re-release?
We all understood what was meant. It's only a mistake if you believe a word always means what it says it does in the dictionary.
"Submitter has made it" doesn't equate to "So many people make it". If anything the slashdot editors seem to pick the dumbest submission they get for any story. To spark the discussion, I suppose.
Every time somebody says that OS X runs on top of BSD, people will post a correction, pointing out that it actually runs on a Mach microkernel and has a BSD compatability layer.
Likewise, everytime somebody calls something "free" when it is funded with taxes, people will post a correction, stating that it's not really free, but rather is a hidden cost.
And every time somebody makes a spelling or grammar error, someone posts to correct it. And is quite rightly modded down.
Instead of getting pissed off at the nit-picks, people should endeavor to get it right the first time.
I do get it right the first time. That doesn't mean I see any less nit-picks.
Far more tiresome than politically-motivated moderation is people who post instructions to "mod down" those points which they dislike. I see from your comment history that this is something you do a lot.
No, I've been doing it a lot the last couple of days, I'm in an irritable mood. If you look at my whole comment history you'll find it's actually pretty rare. And I don't think any of it's politically motivated - I'm just fed up of reading the same dumb comments again and again and again.
If my comments pain you so greatly, instead of spending your energy trying to convince others to help you censor views you don't like,
So modding down is censorship now? Funny, the slashdot FAQ says it isn't.
just put me and anybody else who expresses an opinion you can't handle
It's not an opinion I can't handle, it's a content-free post I'm bored of reading over and over.
on your "foes" list and set us at -6 in your preferences.
My foelist is reserved for people who do something really idiotic. That said you're well on your way to earning a place in it.
Mentioning that taxation isn't free makes one a "right-wing nutjob?" Holy shit!
No, thinking that this point - which comes up 3 times in every thread that ever mentions municipal authorities providing anything - deserves an insightful moderation rather than redundant and troll makes one a right-wing nutjob. The only reason anyone would mod it up was because they thought modding up a right-wing point was more important than modding up someone who contributes to the discussion.
I mean, if I was a protocol engineer making a protocol for synchronising the time between systems, there'd be two packets, one that says "tell me the time" and one that says "this is the time" with a space for the time, and that would be it.
Someone made an analogy "The fire alarm is going, there's no smoke or flame as yet, but it's time to calmly leave the building". Don't rush, but look at moving to an alternative hash as soon as you can.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't compromise SHA-256, but with attacks on both MD5 and SHA-1 the whole family starts to look suspect. The original RIPEMD is rather suspect but RIPEMD-160 seems to be standing up well, I'd recommend it. Also possibly Tiger (which I know little about) or Whirlpool (new, experimental, seems secure)
The line that attacks only get better is very true. I'm not concerned about these attacks directly, but I'm concerned about the existence of attacks so soon after it's approval. They probably won't come to anything, but why take the risk? I'll stick to cast, the worst I've ever heard said about it is that it's ugly.
It doesn't get you expelled from society now, why would it then? And that ruthlessness can be a selective advantage in some cases, certain situations. Or maybe having a "half gene" for it is useful, makes you that bit more driven, cunning, etc., so the gene persists and people with two copies of it wind up psychopaths.
EFF appears to be ashamed of this "detail" because they left it out of the report on their website.
How does it alter the case? Our rights don't mean anything if you waive them for child porn. How about we get rid of innocent until proven guilty for child porn cases too?
The day they became evil in my book was when they sued that guy for offering RSS feeds of Google news. I still use them to search, but I won't use any other google products. There are better alternatives for just about everything they offer, they just have the name and apple-style adoring zealots.
KHTML is supposed to be crossplatform, IIRC KDE 4.0 will be a fully crossplatform release, but I know the porting effort to Qt4 is only just getting underway so it's probably not usably crossplatform yet. I'm not sure even then it will have the same "development impetus" though, since keeping the documentation and comment quality up necessitates slower progress.
Huh? Slax includes cdparanoia but you can hardly expect joe average to use that. K3b has a "copy cd" option, but anyone with a cd burner will have easy CD creator or nero, both of which can do the same just as easily.
You could download the engine binaries anyway, what I don't have are the .pk3 files with all the data in.

Doom's been around for ages, and runs on the ipod for starters.

But surely it would be better to just leave the generator "where it is", running at normal speed, and then no generators would be going out of phase?
then the product is not of merchantable quality and you can sue their ass off. If the system's still stable, then what's the problem?
What was wrong with apollo? AIUI it was stopped because it guzzled too much gas, not because of any reliability concerns.

Come off it, half the time headlines aren't even spelled correctly
Maybe this is why I'm not a protocol engineer.
This isn't insightful. Please, someone take the mod points away from the right-wing nutjob.
Please for god's sake stop modding this stupid stupid idea up.

So your privacy policy is worthless? You're putting up a document that you have no intention of following?

If you think that, play Daggerfall. Play it anyway actually, it's a great game - but it still shows that generated cities are a really bad idea.
