Until they reset the BIOS password with that magic jumper on the motherboard or pull out the battery....

Yes, but then they've left evidence of their activities. That's almost as good as preventing it from a certain angle. That is until the child realizes that they could just enable a BIOS password of their own creation. Then when the BIOS password you set eight months ago doesn't work the child plants a seed of self doubt, a simple suggestion that old dad has forgotten yet another thing.

The major changes to existing copyright law that I would like to see, is that if a copyrighted work is removed from active publication for over a year it would roll over to public domain as a work that is no longer profitable for the creator, in addition that the one year term would expire in fourteen years with one extension allowed. The concept being that a copyright holder could not sue for financial losses due to redistribution in a case of an out of publication work being redistributed after it is out of the market for over a year as long as the original creator is cited as such.

What do you all suggest we do? Perhaps a public oversight committee that reviews the prison/jail surveillance tapes? This committe might be comprised of responsible citizens, selected via a process similar to jury duty selection.

In many municipalities there is a citizen committee to provide oversight of abuses of authority. It's your county or city Grand Jury. The Grand Jury in my home county operates off of citizen complaints submitted in writing to the Grand Jury. The Grand Jury has the power to subpoena material, and people to testify in front of the Grand Jury. The Grand Jury can from that point can pass what they find to the District Attorney if they feel there may be sufficient grounds for criminal proceedings, or they may make recomendations to the local government to make policy changes.

  6. Freedom to distribute on RIAA Sends Letter to Senate Supporting INDUCE Act · · Score: 1

I think that what the ??AA also fears from P2P networks is that independent artists now have easy access to distribution channels that their "artist association" does not control. That factor is probably calculated in to their projected 'losses' due to file sharing networks. Also I would like to say that I'm ashamed that one of my state senators has signed her name to this bill too.
