OK, i know where your coming from as far as prefering third person for stealth games, it does help you see more of the area and possible enemies and the like, but personally i prefer using the first person when i can and mostly tilting the camera(when in third person) to see directly in front of me. This helps me see a lot of details and objects (or enemies) that would have been harder to catch in the the normal third person perspective.

Even though the higher angles can reveal more around the player doesn't mean they reveal more important things around the player.

while it's obvious they're covering their ass, could it also be that they're trying to protect employees and other affiliates who had nothing to do with they security breech? if the website is widely known to have had security breechs resulting in infections, that is obviously going to decrease the company income and reputation. both of these would probably force employees to leave, and also make it more difficult for them to find future jobs. my cousin experienced a problem like this after the restaurant he was a chef at was found to have food poisoning. being a mom and pop shop sorta deal, they end up cutting employees due to the lack of business resulting. in the future, he found it difficult to get a new job because he was a chef at the restaurant with food poisioning. all innocent parties deserve protection, not just the victims.

i apologize for a mistype " their current path of action, informing those possibly infected, is the best for everyone " was based on the false assumpthion the company was doing as such. while i do agree that the company should be making an effort to track down people possibly infected, i don't believe that the general public needs to know which servers, sites, etc. were infected because it would result in harasment and probably and over reacted loss of reputation (granted the company does deserve some reduction of good standing for a security breech, it does not need the kind of shunning that would result if the general public found out their identity).

There is also the issue of defining what is "offensive". because everything can be considered offensive to somebody, doesn't that rule out any kind rights that corporations have to private information? lets just say theoreticaly that a company pays certain employees different amounts of money for different jobs but as policy do not tell them the difference, if you find that action offensive does that mean you should know what the differences are so you can tell the employees? granted this circumstance is slighty more dangerous, but that doesn't change the principle. certain actions taken by companies simply are ment to protect it's employees and it's customers from embarrasment/harasment. Perhaps their current path of action, notifing those possibly infected, is the best choice.

i agree with that one, i think damage zones would greatly improve the game in that respect. there's now way shooting the wing stub has the same effect as shooting the tail rotor. But i also think that not every hit should cause damage, a pistol round the bottom of the chopper, where there isn't so much vital stuff, shouldn't do damage. and if it does, only a very tiny amount.

  8. that's not all... on PC Game Sales Trending Downwards · · Score: 2, Interesting
Though i do believe that the increase in the price of the newer games coming out is partially responsible for my lack of purchasing latley, i also think that recent lull in creativity has also helped out. I notice when i'm heading out to Best Buy and CompUSA that i'm not seeing a lot of "new" games for PC. I think that if the PC gaming industry wants to spur a major sales boost, they're going to have to come up with some original ideas instead of half-hearted remakes and sequels and expansions and the like and focus on creating new ideas. there are even a lot of currently existing features found in a lot of games that could easily be combined! I remember not too long ago somebody tried making a game that combined FPS and RTS attributes into one MMO, but they didn't follow through.

could a reason for this be that more and more programmers, writers, etc. are being drawn to console's due to the increasing price (and therefore decreasing probablity) of upgrading PCs in general? If the ability to make the new amazing games is going to rely on expensive upgrades for most gamers, doesn't it make sense that any one in the gaming industry is going to recognize the advantages of the console market due to their relativly inexpensive nature and therefore higher appeal to most gamers? last time i checked, buying a decent X-BOX game at 50 bucks is a heck of alot cheaper than buying Far Cry for the same price and having to buy a new vidcard at upwards of $200 to make it worth while.

  11. there's more to it. on Game with God · · Score: 1

Religion in games is more than just shock value. Often times it's a subtheme or a driving force for the protagonist/antagonist. granted shock value is generaly the most recognized BECAUSE it's a shock. However that doesn't mean it's the only way religion is used. HALO is a good example of this, the whole game is based around a holy war, but the religious aspects aren't used as a shock factor, just reasoning.

  12. Religion Doesn't Sell on Game with God · · Score: 1

I believe the main reason you don't find a lot of religion in games is because there simply isn't a market for it. There is only one religion popular enough int the western world to form a respectable sales base and that is christianity. The only problem is that most christians willing to buy a game for it's religious content are not going to be very big gamers in general. Religion can be used effectivly as a side plot or even an underlying cause, unless of course it's used in a humourus manner such as B&W, however as a main sales pitch or even main feature of a game, it simply wouldn't sell enough to be a profitable venture. It's for this reason that religion isn't used seriously in mainstream games and why it probably won't be seriously used anytime in the near future. and frankly that's fine by me, i don't want there to be some religious theme to my virtual bloodlust. WAHGHGHGGHGH to the world.

I agree with this sentiment, there are way too many cranky and therefore annoying people on the MMOs these days. RPGs aren't nearly as bad as FPS's though. partially because of the higher fee, but also because i feel those cranky and irritating indviduals don't have the patience for RPGs. I mean, when you get onto something like Counter Strike, you'll be gamin along having a relatively civilised fragfest/bloodbath when some little squeaky voice (or older one for that matter) starts streamin curses like a southern sailor and callin everybody cheaters and hackers among everything else every time they run out guns ablazing and die. It's getting so that the only place to have a civilised war is in elite servers! and even then it can be bad. and as far as fee's go, they don't even work that well either, take Rainbow Six 3 for X-BOX for example, you get on those servers and you're always switching servers because of some annoying kid or TKer. It's rediculous! Civilise the Fragfests People!
