Nope. They intend to prove that life existed on Mars. Then they intend to prove there's oil on Mars. Then they intend to go drill for it... And if not Oil, then some other "valuable" resource. Raydude

At first, this might seem somewhat laughable, mainly due to the interesting politics of the Bush Administration and how Bush and Cheney seem to be more interested in oil than everything else. But there's actually more truth in this than you think. What we're going to discover, perhaps in the next 20-30 years, is that space has a lot (correct: a "shitload") of resources - maybe not oil, or something that we have on this planet. The fact remains that, as soon as we do find something *significant* out there, very likely something on one of the other 8 planets in the solar system, businesses and entrepreneurs will be flocking to space like you've never seen before!! We've seen some business interest in space now, but mainly only driven by the desire to boost satellites into orbit for earth-based services and such. But trust me, once they see money out there, they'll go. The one thing that rules in America is the almighty dollar!!

I don't know about linux, because I got the traditional pro-linux sites as well. But I did find it rather funny that when searching for "google" from the MSN news search engine, the second link is for http://news.google.com/ !!

Perhaps someone at Micro$oft has been $leeping ... or $lacking off! Better not tell the Bill!

MSN Search?! What's that?! Seriously, I've never even heard of MSN's search engine until this story,... Going to their site, it looks like a total rip-off of google ... The search results look so similar it's not even funny.

Sorry Bill, no dice this game! Thank you for playing! You are the weakest link ... GOODBYE!

It wasn't really a test. It was more of a publicity stunt for the Screen Savers (and gmail). He was obviously really excited about being one of the first kids on the block to have a gmail account, plus, google probably paid TechTV huge $$$ to pull of the stunt, so that it would help to promote the service,... ;-)

It's actually a relatively simple practical joke, and definitely hilarious. All that's required is a simple can of Campbell's (TM) Chunky Soup,... ;-) Doing it today would be quite interesting, though - try getting a metal soup can past the TSA guys at the airport without a few questions! Granted, it's not a weapon, but they'd have to be goin', "what the...?" when you try taking it in your carry on bag. I guess you can always say that it's your alternative to the airline food!

That's probably quite unlikely, considering that humans are not the only "intelligent" life on Earth. We have already discovered several other forms of life on our own planet with varying degrees of intelligence; granted, none as quite as smart as us yet,...

Consider other species, such as dolphins/porpoises, whales, chimpanzees (which share 98.7% of our own DNA), even dogs. A recent study published on cnn.com not to long ago even confirms that domesticated dogs actually understnd about 200 of our own words!

  8. Xerox Phaser 6100 on Comparing New vs Refubished Printers? · · Score: 1

We just purchased a Xerox Phaser 6100 (note: the Phaser line of printers used to be owned by Tektronix, and was purchased by Xerox - actually, Tektronix was purchased by Xerox). Anyway, the 6100 is a decent printer for a moderate amount of usage. We are setting up a new laboratory with perhaps 4-6 people in it, so printing is not going to be a huge demand. We do require a reasonably high-quality laserjet, due to printing of color graphs, charts, and molecular models. The 6100 is of sufficient quality (600 dpi / 1200 dpi enhanced), such that it will create a good professional quality image. Although printing on a high quality paper will produce a much higher quality image. By comparison, the previous lab that I was at used a Tektronix (Xerox) Phaser 780, is of notably higher (1200 dpi standard) print quality. This would not only do tabloid printing (which the 6100 won't do), but it is also much sharper (looking at a printout on plain paper looks like you've used some type of special paper!). However, the Tek Phaser 780 we had was also used HEAVILY. After only 2 - 2 1/2 years of heavy usage, we were spending a significant chunk of money just keeping it operational. So I would be very cautious if purchasing a used printer. Overall, I've found the 6100 very easy to use and will meet our needs quite well! There are drivers for windows, mac, linux, and it set up very easily on our network. We didn't need tabloid printing, so that wasn't an issue this time,...
