It's too stupid a name to possibly be true.

Also, gamesindustry.biz is not official. "British sources." What the hell does that even mean? All Microsoft has said about the name is their "we do not comment on rumors or speculation" rhetoric. Therefore, we don't know what the official name is.

  2. This is for the Japanese market... on XBox 360 Designed for Portability? · · Score: 1

If there's any truth to this, the very small size is going to allow the Japanese to, literally, fit Microsoft's next system inside their homes. Besides being American and not having any dating sims or traditional RPGs, the Xbox's size was an actual factor that makede the Xbox a failure in Japan.

Imagine putting a grand piano in your TV room and you'll know how the Japanese feel about putting Xboxes in their miniscule Tokyo apartments.

As for the name: There is no official name for Microsoft's next system. All we know is the codename--"Xenon". All of this "Xbox 360," "Xbox Next," "Xbox 2/II" stuff is unconfirmed. We won't know what the real name is until MS decides to announce it.

SP2 must have gotten some really bad press in order to achieve numbers that low; it's not just anti-Microsoft slashdot readers who dislike SP2 after all.

For a mainstream OS, I'd imagine that most Joe Users who bother to update think that an update is automatically better and will download it regardless of what it does.

Not only does this mean that major Windows-using businesses have been avoiding SP2, but that many Joe Users don't bother with Windows Update at all, though I suppose that's obvious.

Hopefully MS will take SP2's failure to catch on to heart and do a better job with Longhorn...

  6. More needless Explorer gimmicks? on New Longhorn Screenshots And Schedule · · Score: 1

This is starting to get ridiculous. Based on that screenshot, they've added a poorly-implemented version of the OS X Finder's sidebar (introduced in Panther,) and have applied an even uglier "visual style" that makes the OS look like it was designed for a five-year old. I don't think that I'll be purchasing Longhorn any time near its release, if ever, but as long as all of these needless GUI gimmicks can be turned off (like in XP,) more adept users shouldn't have a problem if they upgrade, or are forced to upgrade at work.

  7. Re:Durability on Liquid Lenses For Camera Phones · · Score: 1
The only thing that worries me is how well something like this would handle shock. If you drop you phone, what if a small drop of oil broke off and was then floating around in the water. Maybe shaking it would get it to merge back again, or maybe not.
Part of the beauty of these lenses is that water and oil don't mix. That would never happen.
