No, something that does not appear possible or make sense in nature does not prove that god exists. You cannot put everything that you do not understand down to god, jesus christ!

Lol, you is a silly, silly, person.
The Stuffit program creates a file that is structurally different from JPEG, which is why they are proposing a new image format.
I said compression algroithms are at probably at their limit for JPEG, meaning the JPEG data structure.
If the open-source compression experts rethink their approach to compressing JPEG based on Stuffit, the new algorithm will not create a JPEG, they would have to call it something like JPEG XP or the like
30%(even close to) is a very good reduction in filesize, when considering this is lossless, you cannot turn your nose up at this. People with alot of jpegs will want to use it.
Creating a better jpeg compression algorithm with 50% (100% is impossible) filezize reduction, seems impossible. I would make the assumption that since jpeg is over 18years old, compression algroithms are at their limit for this image format.
Now take the same PC, blank disc and all, stick in a Linux CD from a mainstream commercial distro (I'll use SUSE 8.x or 9.x for example). Boot of the CD, answerk all the questions (mostly with "Yes"/"OK"). How is this more difficult?
i have a geforce fx graphics card, very popular card, when i installed fed my monitor was all fuzzy, it required me to download latest nvidia drivers and figure out how to install them correctly, which meant i had to change some start up config to 3 instead of 5(and other shite), took least an hour to come across the right page telling me correctly what to do.
I never claimed to want people to switch to Linux. People should use the best tool for the task or whatever they're comfortable with.
totally agree. what grips me is when i read threads turn to windows v linux the feeling i get is that no one should use windows, u should hate microsoft etc, linux is the only way. which is utter crap, fact is microsoft have a v good desktop (love games on windows), it is better than x for most home users who just want to get on with things. other situations like for business i can see plenty of ground where linux can be a better alternative but prob at employees dissatisfaction
and the worse crime linux lovers/microsoft haters commit is crying over spilt milk, how microsoft got their desktop to number1 spot is history, dry your eyes (sigaar, u seem pretty sound, rational, prob dont need a tissue)
for me linux is still just a project to see what all the noise is about, there is alot of noise!
Havn't you just described linux's shortcommings brillaintly?
Firstly there is a huge step between windows and linux, unless you are going to be taken step by step most people dont care because windows will do what they want fine, and if it all fails, even if you never installed windows, its much easier than linux.
please remember that the vast majority of packages out there in their source form yup, what linux needs is better software deliverance, rpm is not as easy as everyone says, most rpms ive used need to be run in the terminal with specific params, not just a click
take a routine task such as dvd burning, i went searching for the linux alternative for fedora, seeing what i had to do, i thought, why waste my time with this kernel BS, or waiting for a fecking key in the mail(still aint got) when nero is sitting pretty on my ntfs partition. as if the linux software available could match nero anyway.
you talk about bitchy n00bs, look at yourself, a bitchy vereran, why expect new users to settle for less when you want them to convert to linux?
people want computers to work for them, not the other way around
well, i disagree, most nokias i have used have been texting machines! you do get used to your new keypad after a short time but i know some which have crap keypads such as that very very cool titanium model. i have an 8310 for a few years now and reckon its the best goddamned phone i could have bought without a camera. v small discreet brilliant for txtN, voice calls are good enuff quality and signal is not below any other phones. plus has a radio which is v good when without the ipod.
hehe, yea was a bit long but informative. i still reckon that you have to give microsoft credit for building an os that so many computer illiterate could begin to use. they have contributed greatly to the os market.
can you say that if all the other os's had the same numbers of users and hackers they wouldnt be comming out with patches too? microsoft is addressing security from what i read, and next os will be a big improvement. you may think too late but i need to stop typing now and go.
true true, it is unsubstantiated by my experience (as i did mention, didn't think you would have to really point the that out tho) but what about windows popularity?
you can go on about the business tactics bla bla, but surely microsoft would not have had the leverage on the big pc makers if they themselves were confident in the ability of other os's (im sure the guys at Dell, HP, etc were clued into what software was available at the time)
tell u where im comming from. i recently tried out fed linux, pain in the ass. the average home pc user would have given up. setting up raid was a biatch, but thats not linux fault. i then had to install the nvidia drivers through command line cause the gui was all fuzzy. pain in the ass first time, can do it again easy but most people dont want to have to do it at all.
so is microsofts plug and play the best around or what? i've been impressed with xp, eveything is straightforeward, whereas with linux everything is a struggle, first time i used windows95 it was far more obivous than fed linux is now.
you are taking microsoft for granted. how long did you expect people to wait for a better os? ten years on windows is still the easiest most intuitive and compatible.
although I've only ever tried fed linux as an alternative, mounting file systems is a fecking pain in the ass, maybe it will grow on me?

What you just said, it is idiotic.
Just shot the guilty ones then...
Now I am silly for using square brackets and forgetting line breaks, ouch.

also grant this to linux
do you have fat hands?
