The problem for AMD is that even after slashing the prices, the new Intel Core 2 Duo (Conroe) CPUs still pretty much deliver better bang for the buck (although the Netburst P4 don't, but thank god they're finally about to go the way of the Dodo). AMD's advantage at the moment is mass availability, in that regard things are a bit murky for Conroe.
My last few CPUs were all AMD, because for me, they represented the best balance in performance and price. However, I'm planning on building myself a new computer to the end of the year, and at the moment it looks like I'll go for Intel this time, even after those AMD price slashes. Pretty much every single Conroe review has it blowing away the top of the line AMD CPUs... now them Core 2 Duo only need to actually be available *sigh*
Just one example, but the Columbus ISS module is pretty much depending on the Shuttle for transport to the ISS. Unfortunately, at the moment there is no other launch vehicle in use that could transport Columbus to the ISS. Pretty stupid to put all your eggs in one basket? Perhaps, but at the time of its development, it was pretty much unthinkable that the Shuttle fleet would be grounded long enough to let Columbus (or the whole ISS for that matter) slide into irrelevance...
If the rules of engagement demand a visual identification before a firing order is issued, BVR pretty much becomes meaningless. I'm not saying that ROE like that are the norm, but IMHO forced limitations shouldn't be forgotten completely.
I think it was "Debt of Honour" where CIA operatives near the airport use lasers to blind japanese (don't ask) AWACS pilots, making them crash their planes.
Coincidentally, that book ends with a airliner being crashed into the White House.
Soo, what does this mean? It's obvious - Tom Clancy is providing The Terrorists (tm) with ideas and needs to be put in jail ASAP!
Military tries to make humans more like robots
I guess he wasn't talking about the drop itself, but rather the crash at the end. You get over 1g rather quickly, there ;)
... I hope you're glad! Madmen! MADMEN!

I don't know what timezone you're in, but news here in Germany this morning were that the deal is pretty much done...
I'm surprised there's nothing regarding that deal on Slashdot yet, as it appears to be as good as done.

... once you reach the remote location: the zombies are already there!
"Titan Rain", pah. So what's "Screaming Fist" in Chinese, anyways?
*runs & hides*
"Just the possibility of a human mind bouncing around inside a sheep's head is a scary proposition."
Strangely, we're all absolutely fine with the other way around...
The main idea of this competition was to get things going. Would this cash have been used for something like this if there was no X-Price?

Looks like R2D2 was able to fix things in time...
