I liked the last paragraph of the article "It is thought that several beaver families joined forces to create the massive dam, containing thousands of trees, and took many months to complete it."
Compare that to the article from the CBC "Biologists estimate the dam would have taken at least 20 years to build. It is visible in NASA satellite imagery from 1990."
along with clauses allowing for non-commercial use and distribution of any book, movie, program, etc. which is not being sold to the general public
What if I write a book, and then 5-10 years later I regret what I wrote, and don't want it published anymore. I think that the author of the book should be able to control what is done with their works at least while they are alive. Think of a musician who writes and records an absolutely horrible song, and as a result decides never to sell it, you think someone who gets a hold of a copy of this song should now be able to distribute it, just because the artist doesn't like it? Just so they can laugh at this artist?
I am not sure that I understand what you mean by wanting copyright to be an "opt-in system". I like the fact that I know that whatever I put to paper is automatically copyrighted. This means that by default my random spewings in a private journal (for example) are protected by copyright and no-one can republish them if they happen to get a hold of them by chance. This is also the case for an online web site that I create as well or some piece of code that I write. Do you really think everyone should have to constantly opt-in for copyrights to everything they ever put to paper?
Git works well with multi GB files as well. I use it for both my music and my photos.
You just have to make sure that you disable its desire to compress and re-pack things.
I am also an ulumni of the U of A. More specifically I did my research in the games department, although not specifically on poker. I was sort of suprised the article never mentioned Darse Billings who is one of the main people behind poker agents at the U of A.
NiMH puts out something like 1.2 volts. 1.2 vs 1.7 is starting to be a fairly large spread. My Cannon takes 4 batteries so now we are looking at 4.8 volts vs 6.8 volts. That seems fairly significant.
If I remember correctly Kodak cameras are designed for Lithium Ion or NiMH batteries, Alkaline batteries aren't recommended because they put out too much voltage. This would lead me to believe that these new batteries with even a higher voltage could definately be a problem.

What if you just make it illegal to respond spam? You could start setting up sting ops to catch those people who find spam actually interesting.
Are the solutions to the problem really any better than the problem? More beaurocracy, more laws. Why not just try to breed smarter people?
Imagine the problems trying to type while your laptop keeps sliding around on your lop.
