My domain is jobbank.com. Well we handle, ummm.... job posts and resumes and... Can anybody tell me if we look like a Financial Bank? Maybe not?
Glad my company started up in USA all of a sudden.
If Oracle monetizes Java too harshly, small businesses may not use it and will opt for other open source languages. Java open source projects and Linux could take a dive over time due to lack of new project interest.
The one company that likes this the most is likely Microsoft. As businesses are likely going to have to pay for a language, they may as well go for a highly integrated one. C# may become more palatable.
Sadly, I must admit that job sites are a bit of the culprit. News papers generate their income through the classifieds, but most people have recognized that job sites can provide more diverse features, hit a broader group of individuals, etc then newspapers. Also if people place their jobs online, their company becomes advertised and people can click to the company's web page instantly. I respect greatly the importance of newspaper companies in our past. Many times their investigative practices have prevented government problems at all levels. Yes, they do many negative things just for hype, but in the long run of their existence, they have provided an important public service.
I hope this public service also manages to be transformed to the internet better. Right now, I see too much about stars and unimportant things, and little on true issues that our country (and others) need to deal with. How many articles really push for the current situation of our country's health? How many people know we are spending 8% of our taxes on interest every year because of our national debt? Sadly, after all of the huge other bills, 8% is most of what is left. Most people don't know this, but they know if Britney had a bad nail day. Sad how poor media coverage can change what people think about.
It is very important that quality investigative news reporters remain strong whether through the newspaper or online media.
Since Windows ME, I have always felt somewhat stuck with Microsoft being a monopoly for interoperability requirements, but I think having to pay as I go for a full operating system would remove this in my mind as a concern. I think I would immediately move to Linux or Mac to avoid the feeling of being part of participating in the ever increasing money suck. It is starting to feel expensive for what I really get. How much does it cost for Windows Vista Ultimate and then Office Pro? Linux and OpenOffice are starting to feel like a better solution to me.
By advertising on online job sites, you hit a much broader area of people. Often folk in IT are willing to move if the financial package and technology are right.
Note I am nudging up my own company here, but I do believe if you specify the job description well and weed out resumes that apply you can find the right kind of people.
One thing I think also helps is having candidates do a difficult (worthy & interesting) development test prior to even interviewing them. I have seen companies give out 2-day tests that target not just good development practices, but also the ability to think outside the box. Only the hearty will stay on and they may appreciate the test if it makes for a good puzzle.
I think it is funny timing how we turned down a $73k/month in advertising last night from one of the top three spam supporting syndicators. They were seeking a $1.16 per average click through.
I am very glad I read the detailed report from end to end. We seek value in advertising, not spam, but it is very difficult for well meaning companies to figure out which is which. You shouldn't have to be a rocket scientist to differentiate the deceptive tactics/companies from the valid ones. I guess most forms of fraud end up being abstractly similar to this scheme in the end though.
Though I have not used it yet, my sense of what I have read from others is lack of innovation and more concern in general for the media companies then the end users. Putting in an OS things that would degrade media quality is a bit shocking to me personally. People have complained over unnecessary security degrading machine performance towards games, etc. The people I know tend to want to stay on XP for as long as possible because they feel they would like the more chances of viruses then that they have invited a Big Brother into their home.

I got to be imagining War of the Worlds when reading about what these little guys can do.
In 15-20 years it will be the much improved Nanites vs the young and upcoming bacteria bots that can form themselves into pieces of equipment in your body (based on a previous article).
In the end, them red/white blood cells will be very outdated amdist the new War of the Miniture Worlds.

Being that we run a job bank, I am not seeing that the industry is stagnant. What I am seeing is that though many jobs are getting offshored, new ones are being created back here. Companies are recognizing that having a strong IT staff helps optimize their businesses. What I am also seeing that I don't like is that though companies tend to be making a nice proffit, they are not passing this onto their employees. Salaries have somewhat stagnated in general and are not keeping up with inflation. Just my watchful view.

Why would a person potentially wish to swap out their new battery packs for potentially older or even non-working battery packs?
But will it whistle subconsciously and fail to be able to use contractions?

If something smells fishy don't eat it.
Last time I was at my accountants, I got zapped by his new Dell Laptop. Maybe just luck.
