That's some real troll-bait comparing Mac OS to Windows XP. There's really little similarity. Microsoft is discontinuing security patches for a 12 year old OS. Apple is discontinuing security updates for an 18 month old OS.
None of the things you mention provide many jobs, especially compared to the industries being replaced. It's not as simple as you seem to be making it out to be.
Ever look into diesel engines? They're hella' more efficient than gasoline and provide a lot of torque. I don't understand why, but diesel is a simple, cheap, yet dramatic improvement to MPG. My Golf Turbo Diesel gets about 50 MPG and is smokin' fast.
People who give out their phone number to random Internet "services" that they are not customers of quite frankly deserve to be assaulted by telemarketers at all hours.
These are like portable SGI machines. What's the point? Nobody is going to walk around with a $10K machine. They'd be appealing if they had functional cases, though. This is the kind of machine that needs to be easily upgradeable and customizeable.
All of what you said could certainly be true. But the one big one you missed out on is that in some situations, the person honestly just doesn't give a shit how he/she "presents" to other people. It's rare, but it happens.
There are plenty of companies with more money to waste.
The rejection of $3B was greed, pure and simple. They're not expecting, planning, or probably even striving to make a profit. They're just gambling that somebody will buy them before the fad subsides.
Really, who cares if they can make money or not? That wasn't the whole point of Snapchat. Hell, it's not the point of 99% of tech companies these days. The point is to be bought by somebody else, not to make profit. Making profit is hard. Convincing some deep-pocketed sucker to buy you out is much easier.
You're under the false assumption that everybody buys new hardware every year or two. I have hardware that's been running for over a decade, and is still working just fine.
Although Windows XP still works wonderfully for me, and although I'd like to continue using it (with security updates of course), I really can't complain. It's one of the longest supported OS's in PC history. Nothing else has come even close, and no vendor is talking about having anywhere near a decade+ of support in the near future, either.
Now that they're in the process of centralizing health care, how long will it be before people's transactions for alcohol, tobacco, fast food, etc., is tracked, and possibly declined because their health isn't good enough?
With Bitcoin, that can be done today. With actual, physical cash, that can never be done. You seem to be confused about what you're arguing for.
There's a big difference. Internet video was a fundamentally sound idea that was able to improve incrementally. Bitcoin is a fundamentally flawed idea that can't be incrementally fixed.

If by "manipulated" you mean "kept relatively stable", I tend to agree.
Bitcoin isn't "manipulated" at all, hence it's uselessness as a currency.

This means that nearly one third of all PC users are running disastrously old systems.
What does "disastrously old" mean, exactly? That doesn't make sense, in and of itself.
Not everybody is a mouth breathing moron who needs yet another portable television. Some people actually need to *do* things with their computers.
Here's a better link
Very cool!
It doesn't matter. The point is, there's no need to shit on somebody else's art.
I'd have been ashamed to admit creating it.
Not everyone can appreciate art, but there's no reason to be a prick about it.
It works well for telephone numbers.
People who give out their phone number to random Internet "services" that they are not customers of quite frankly deserve to be assaulted by telemarketers at all hours.
You don't like Windows 8. Who cares? Windows 7 works just fine.

That's a server OS. Any server OS that isn't supported for at least a decade is bullshit, anyway, in my opinion.
The Slashdot of 1997-2002 would have loved Bitcoin. The Slashdot of 2013 hates it for some reason. I wonder what changed?
That's easy. Most of the Slashdot crowd has grown up.

bad.
The hardware is perfectly usable for basic stuff, but it's absurdly expensive! That hardware costs about $100-$120 refurbished.

Bitcoin is like wages from a fast food job as opposed to an allowance; lets you buy what you want without someone else having a veto
Oh, that's cute. Somebody page me when I can buy anything with Bitcoin...
