This really isn't that difficult. If someone is coming into your store and won't buy from you because they can get it elsewhere for cheaper then simply match the price.
Well, duh. They've considered that. They decided not to try to compete on price, which is a smart decision. Competing on price never ends well (Business School 101). You end up sacrificing profits to keep non-loyal customers until the next competitor comes along and then you're all gone.
You don't get it. They don't want your business. That's why they're doing this. They're "firing" their bad customers. Businesses do it all of the time.
you know, when you declare war on your own customers, it may backfire. just saying...
The consumer fired the first shot. At this point, most people don't care what/where they buy, so long as it's cheap (yaaay, Foxconn suicides!). There's really nothing for Target to lose. They'll gain some business, and lose some customers that they need to fire, anyway.
App selection is one of most important aspects on a smart phone today
So says you. I run a businesses and I need a phone to communicate. A million badly written "apps" that make fart noises don't add any value to me. But, to each their own...
It still exists. They just renamed it.
(This post done with a brand new HTC phone running Windows that does all of the same things as an iPhone, but costs hundreds of dollars less)
I just bought a windows 7 Phone and it works just fine. There are more than enough "apps" for it, but I don't really care since I got mine for Outlook/Exchange, and not for playing games. I really don't care how many they sell.
The high demand for Apple's shares has absolutely nothing to do with their staggering profitability. Not at all. Totally unrelated. People would be willing to pay just as much for Apple shares if they were losing $13bn a quarter rather than making $13bn.
Exactly. Apple stock is high because people know Apple. Apple hasn't paid a dividend in over a decade. There's no reason to buy Apple stock unless you think that other people will continue to want to buy Apple stock. (aka: Ponzi Scheme) People buy and sell billions of dollars of stock of worthless companies every single day.
It's the consumers who are racing to the bottom. Consumers buy whatever is cheapest, whether it's tech or not. They don't care who made it, how it was made, where it came from, or anything else. All they want is cheap, cheap, cheap. Everybody is responsible for this. Human nature is a nasty, greedy, selfish thing.
Of course, the stock is ridiculously high due to these margins
No, the stock price is relatively high because a relatively large number of shares have been purchased recently. Stock price has nothing to do with the company's profitability.
You gotta be a bit slow if you think Apple is the only company doing this. Because it's 100% legal, and *encouraged* by our laws, almost every US company does this. Almost every man-made object in your every day life relied on near-slave labor at some point to create it. More Americans need to understand that objects aren't created from magic by Amazon.com.
I've had excellent luck with Rackspace. We use them for generic POP/IMap email and also for Exchange/Outlook. Of course, there are web interfaces for both types. And, since we pay for our email, there's no advertising, selling of our data, etc. And of course, if we have a problem, we have somebody to go to.
But email is so commoditized now, I don't think it really matters all that much what company you go with. Regardless of who you choose, money will be made on your use of the email, whether it comes from your wallet every month, or whether it comes from selling your data. I prefer to just pay a few bucks a month and have excellent email, and not worry about all of that other crap that goes along with "free" email.
The only thing going on is that people are suckers for slick marketing and consumerism in general. They are making a massive profit because they are able to charge several multiples over their competition for the same hardware.
How much are these "iBooks"? Are they cheaper? I can't even check to see what is available without installing iTunes, which is banned from my workplace.
Neither Apple or Google offer business class email/calendaring services.

the sooner you embrace the new model instead of fight it, the better.
This "new model" will fall apart as soon as the US implements sane sales tax policies.

But if all you are doing is "communicating" then you don't need a smartphone so what does your opinion on smartphones matter?
Here's a hint... What's the most widely deployed email system in businesses around the world?
. Microsoft isn't offering anything that other manufacturers aren't already.
They offer better Outlook/Exchange integration, which is why I bought mine.
Kid, when you get a job, maybe you'll understand that sometimes people do things for reasons other than "looking cool".
There are no really good high end WP7 phones for sale in the US.
That's not true. I just bought an HTC Arrive from Sprint ($50), and I have yet to figure out what an iPhone does that this one doesn't do.

Well, to counter your anecdotal evidence with more anecdotal evidence, I haven't found any bugs or weirdness with my Windows Phone.

I walked into a Sprint store and purchased a Windows phone without the salesman batting an eye just the other day.

"basysKom and open-slx" aaaah, that clears things up!

I'm open to suggestions about where to go from here. I need online webmail that will "Do no Google."
Pay for email.
You think as if all consumers are idiots and will put down good hard earned money for shitty products.
McDonald's is the most successful restaurant chain in the world.
Wal-Mart is the most successful retailer in the world..
Something is going on here..

I find it hard to believe that harvesting trees and creating paper is more toxic than mining toxic heavy metals, regardless of the process.
