Extending that to an 18 month trip is still simply the same technology.

And yes, if we wanted we had robot miners around 1968, we just did not build them that time. What exactly do you think is so compicated about them?

If your Mac did not boot from the usb flash drive, then the flash drive most likely did not contain a boot loader.
Or you did not instruct/allow the Mac to boot from a flash drive,
How retarded are you that you claim the firm ware does not allow certain OSes to boot (from a flash drive)?

Yes, the whole text above is intentionally bold ...

A Mac per se does not need any support, there are no magical: 'it worked yesterday but now it does not work anymore' moments.
If your parents have trouble it is most likely an application and not the OS/the Mac.

How one can claim to work with linux and can not handle/fix a Mac is beyond me. Both are unix, everything is super similar or exactly the same.

How you are unable to put music on an iPod is beyond me ... perhaps stop trying to use an 'explorer' to put pirated/unofficially downloaded files on it?

How hard can it be to click the check boxes in iTunes which playlists or albums you want to have on the iPod?

But thats it! It can not be executed, aka be run! As it does not execute, it can not cause harm or spread.

This has nothing to do with a 90% install base of Windows (which is not true anyway).
Unix based systems are simply hardened against viruses by nature.
No idea why people like you don't grasp that.

2 walking basically behind the car, picking up the cans, emptying them and bringing them back into the yard of the house.

The driver will likely be replaced by an automatic garbage truck, the other 4 guys will be around until they perhaps get replaced by robots.

I myself, having spent my formative years in a less-than-successful nation, remember McDonalds as being an incredible treat; my parents could afford to take me once or twice a year, and it made my friends incredibly jealous.

The demo mode is supposed to be a full mode for a certain amount of time and then degrade to a simple mode. However it is only a simple mode. Hence I have no idea how good it would be in full mode. As I have my Mac Book with me everywhere I go, it is a lost sale for AIDE. (A shame that they reside in the same town as I do)
The device should be irrelevant, but FYI: it is a Lenovo Yoga Book.

What tools do you recommend for people who want to do development other than as a profession?
For Android? Android Studio, that implies a laptop or desktop with Windows, Mac OS or Linux. Obviously enough knowledge to have a local git repository and backups of it, or knowledge and internet access for a repository at http://github.com/ or http://bitbucket.com/

Beyond that it really depends what you want to do. Gradle knowledge and basic shell scripting would be helpful. If you want to top that, a jenkins CI environment (http://jenkins.io) and an Android installation in a VM (https://www.virtualbox.org) might be interesting. However on Mac OS I had bad luck to integrate Android VMs with Android studio. (A VM would only be useful for programming without attaching a physical device and/or automate UI testing with click robots)

All those tools are "free", so it does not matter if you develop professionally or as a hobbyist.
