But the real driver was the availability of something that worked and could pay for itself in energy savings. Once the public was offered products that produced acceptable quality light
And the reason for that is that Europe set up stricter laws, so that the companies where forced to manufactor stuff like this. And then they approached smerican markets.
There is no single product in history - that I'm aware of - that was switched from 'environmental harmfull' to 'less harmfull' either by customer demand or voluntarily by the producing company.

In the environments I work, developers can not even connect to any prod and most of the time not to any preprod system either.
They only can access dev and test environments, and often they have no access to the test filesystem, hence admins have to set up test dbs, test systems and basic test data and developers or their software can only access the running DB or other software via REST etc.

Likewise admins that actually can work on PROD have usually no access to test or dev. Lets call them 'operators', old school :)

  8. You have a point, but that has nothing to do with MTTF, note M means 'mean'.
In other words: if one of the disk fails 15 days after purchase, and the last one after 30 years, the mean can still easily be an acceptable 15years.

So, what you want to imlly is that they come from the same batch, and might all have the same flaw or faulty component and hence might fail in short time of each other. So yes, that again leads to 'same MTTF' but that is not what MTTF means or describes.
