    > However good iTunes may be, it needs to be installed

No it comes standard with the Mac os X operating system. And what if you're using a pc? You most likely have spent a lot of time installing goodies already (office, winamp, spybot search and destroy, photoshop, illustrator, free emoticons...), so what is your argument here? It is based on a nonexisting problem.

    >... it will be seen by your OS as a USB hard drive.

The Ipod also shows itself as a hard drive, both firewire 400 as USB. Again, you show a lack of knowledge.

    > Basically, plug it into any computer and you can start transferring files.

yes, after installing the drivers. and rebooting. Don't forget that even that HD10 has a complex directory structure to store its mp3's. You will probably be provided with the installation disk of a program which allows you to transfer your music "easily". install, reboot.

    > So, why would I want iTunes?

Because it is easy to use, intuitive, and the ITMS offers a huge variety in music. All integrated.

I plug my ipod in its cradle each evening, the playlists automatically gets updated, as well as the calendar and adress book, the iPod gracefully disconnects and charges for as long as you have the firewire cable plugged in. Each morning I grab my iPod from its cradle without hassle and just use it. And have used it for about 1.5 years now.
