It controls among other things the power saving features in your system, like turning your monitor off and on at preset times or when you open and close your lid, and spinning down your hard drive to save power. Uh, don't you think that your buggy, malfunctioning ACPI Embedded Controller could be turning on and off your hard drive at inappropriate times, causing your filesystem to become trashed? I sure as hell do, and if your ACPIEC won't respond to you OS's commands and does whatever it wants, (as it's supposed to in ACPI) it can and likely will do shit like that. Also, your other peripherals have nothing to do with you ACPIEC. Why would you bother probing those for problems? That's a stupid waste of time. Did you check your acpiec.sys driver for corruption? I doubt it. Did you check your event log to see what the BSOD was all about? I doubt that one. Have you tried installing XP using a 'Standard PC' HAL and seen if the problem went away? I doubt that, too. I'll even go as far as to say that the only reason why you're not having a problem with your Linux installation is that you don't have ACPI running in your kernel or loaded as a module. Do you? Nah. I didn't think so.

Yes, overheating WILL cause you computer to malfunction. That's a fact. Not bullshit. Laptops are not immune to overheating. CPU fans fail and so will the CPU. Your PSU can run too hot and fail as well. Maybe you'll be lucky and not have the resulting power spike travel down your ATX rail and let the magic smoke out of everything in your system.
Faulty memory IS one of a handful of main causes. That's a fact. You're only kidding yourself if you think it's a symptom of another problem when in fact it IS the problem. That is, unless they're running too hot, OC'd, improper timings, or other such incompetent administration.
Another cause, a buggy BIOS. It happens, especially when you're on the cutting edge. It can also cause an operating system to fuck up. Just get an update and flash it. (and yes, your BIOS is part of your hardware as it's on a chip. not a disk)

I'm familiar with Coolermaster. iirc, I think I had a CPU fan of that make in my old AMD Duron system once. The bearings in it went to hell in a hurry so I replaced it with an Antec. I would guess that flaky PSUs aren't the only things that they make.;-)

That translates to what, a 3.3MHz difference on a processor running 11x the FSB? Is that the big issue people are fretting like mad about? What a non-event!
Asus makes good quality motherboards. Not junk like what some name brands dish out. Now, what manufacturer was responsible for using substandard, exploding capacitors again?;-)
I don't see the big deal in bumping up the FSB 2MHz. As long as they build quality in their motherboards, the 2MHz difference is negligible. My A8V Deluxe defaults at exactly 200.3MHz on the FSB instead of an even 200MHz and I don't have any hardware or stability issues from the 300kHz increase. IIRC, that old A7S-VM I used to have also ran slightly OC'd and I've never had any problems with it. You're really going to have more problems from badly written software, transient voltage spikes from the power grid, marginal memory modules, or a defective/underpowered PSU before you have a problem from a FSB bumped up an asshair or two. You'll just have to do your part and buy good quality memory.

I forget the brand name of this damned case, but I can attest that I'm not very satisfied with it. I chucked the PSU that came with it by default. The front USB ports don't work right. The left side access panel is a pita to remove. The AGP video card is a real whore to install and remove because it will hit the back of the case and I really have to mess with it just to be able to slide it into the slot. The right side access panel is loose nearest the front faceplate. The faceplate doesn't correctly align with the rest of the case, leaving sharp edges on the front. The screwless drive bays are pretty screwy. Once I trying to insert a floppy drive, and I went too far in. It was so jammed up that I ended up fighting with it for over an hour just to get the drive out. And let's not forget the bloodletting I did all over the place because of this muttfuck design. Alas, I'll have to break down, actually open my wallet, and take up your suggestion for my health and sanity.

The screwless drive bays are pretty screwy. Once I trying to insert a floppy drive, and I went too far in. It was so jammed up that I ended up fighting with it for over an hour just to get the drive out. And let's not forget the bloodletting I did all over the place because of this muttfuck design. Alas, I'll have to break down, actually open my wallet, and take up your suggestion for my health and sanity.
