    Congress will do nothing. Patents are one of the main forms of passive income for rich people including lawyers, judges and politicians.

    Patent reform will not happen unless we get massive public outcry alike to the civil rights movement.

    I could never understand what is with all these digits in version numbers. If it was up to me the kernel would be in version 8.x or 9.x already.

    What's with open source and all these version numbers starting with 0.x?. Why are they so afraid of just a freaking number? I've been using mythtv for about 10 years and they just released version 0.24.1 *facepalm*

    Linus just realized that version numbers are about marketing more than anything else. Microsoft has been doing this for decades. I should buy me some redhat stock.

    The punishment for not doing your job or doing it wrong by violating procedures or otherwise is getting fired. He was fired, that's plenty of punishment.

    Anything else they are adding on top of it is a violation of his 8th amendment protections, any competent lawyer should get these extra penalties overturned.

    I can't figure out how this guy got convicted. He was an asshole and lacked common sense but 4 years in jail?, 1.5M? talk about "cruel or unusual punishment", 8th amendment anyone?

    Are they appealing this case?, why is the EFF not involved?, this is the kind of case they should be looking at. This case sets the scary precedent that admins are criminally liable for the network they maintain.

    Actually humor is what made SG1 such a great series on its first 5 seasons. All these funny moments happening through the episodes made it more realistic and entertaining.

    Caprica and SG-U were such failures because they tried to build on BSG style without the same talented writers and fell into the trap of nonsense drama (people blaming and screaming at each other, guilty feelings, etc). They used all the tricks in the books to keep a high level of tension without quality scripts. Actors, no matter how good, can only do so much.

    Somebody with free time count the average smiles you see in a SG-1 episode and compare to any episode of Caprica and SGU.

    dude, they had it all considered, they even had barriers to prevent tsunamis from doing what they did. What nobody thought was the possibility that such an earthquake could sink Japan coastline 3+ feet rendering their tsunami barriers useless.

    You clearly are doing it wrong.

    "study and work hard" is the biggest lie we are told growing up. I personally think the key is finding your talent and figuring out how to make money from it.

    In my case I found out I was good at coding and since then I haven't had trouble finding software developer jobs.

    Do you use your talents in your current career?

    Note we are talking talent, not skill. Anybody can go college, learn a skill and still suck compared to somebody talented.

    Investing in transportation infrastructure is never worthless, it promotes economic development across these routes years after they have been built. This kind of long term investment is what we have government charge us taxes for.

    Think of how this country grew economically in the 50s and 60s thanks to the new interstate freeways being built.

    Unfortunately I think OpenID is going nowhere because (imho) is a bitch to implement. If they wanted everybody to use it they should have designed it in an easy way to include in your website.

    On the other hand, facebook, twitter, etc make it really easy to use their authentication to comment in your blog, they also handle canceling accounts created to spam for you since half the internet will have them reported before they can spam my blog.

    Besides, having a facebook account is not a big deal, just don't use your real info and tell your friends who you really are.

    This is my idea too, I have several wordpress blogs I haven't maintained in years. I get a handful of new sign ups a week I totally ignore because comments are completely disabled.

    If I ever get back to these blogs I will only allow comments from people with a social network account (twitter followers, facebook friends). This way I leave the blunt of the blocking to them.

    So they can relay the handshake between the keyfob and the car allowing them to enter the car and turn on the ignition. The question is how far away can they drive once the keyfob is no longer in range?

    If the car manufacturer didn't build a security measure shutting down ignition after sometime of the car being off-range then I would be worried. Otherwise robbers just ran away a few hundred meters and maybe could steal some stuff from the car without having to break into it.

    I will ask that question before buying my next car if it comes with keyless ignition.

    What's with all these people that thing everybody else needs to do something to keep them safe?, why not do something yourself.

    When I drive, I am always looking way ahead to what might happen to make me stop. Once I saw a basketball rolling in front of my car 50 yards away, I stopped just in case a kid might run after it and he did.

    When I walk around a parking lot I pay attention to all the cars I'm walking by, do they have their backing up lights on?, then I stop or steer clear.

    Maybe people need to get rolled over a couple times by quiet cars so they start paying more attention.

    This law is stupid, there is too much noise pollution in cities already. The trend should be towards quieting down, not noising up.

    Congress can put whatever law they want on the books no matter its constitutionality. The Supreme Court then it is supposed to shut it down but it has not always worked like that. The fact that they have upheld FCC obscenity laws is an example where they simply wiped their asses with the 1st amendment.

    A bank declining to pay a check written to wikileaks will make its customer liable under "hot check" laws, right?

    As a Bank of America customer I'm looking forward to the giant class action lawsuits that will result from this.

    Well, that tells you how crappy a job the writers did since I just realized this when reading your post
