By Moore's Law, the complexity of CPUs will match that of the human mind by 2030.
Your definition of complexity of the human mind is based on what? That's quite a little statement to drop without backing it up!

...sounds like a lot of the development projects I have worked on over the years. Most of those failed. I'm not sweating bullets over this one succeding per Joy's plan.

Logic is a systematic method of coming to the wrong conclusion with confidence.

I've got the freedom, where's the information?

Yeah, I don't go to B&N anymore. Not because they're evil. Simply because they almost never have what I'm looking for and their staff are horrible at customer relations. The independent bookstores in St. Louis are doing OK thank you...even some of the ones that have been bought by chains!

When you say the movie was 'horrific' do you mean that it was a bad movie, or just that it mutilated the book?
Yes to both. Bad costumes, bad sets, bad characterizations, bad dialog, bad acting, bad continuity, bad special effects, bad writing, bad story, just evil! evil! evil!

    I'm sorry...did I make my point?

BTW when is anybody going to get it right? The "eyes of the ibad (sic)" effect _MUST_ be done with scleral (another sic) shells of different shades of blue. The whole eye is affected, not just the pupil! For example, Stilgar should have beautifilly inscrutibal navy blue eyes, essetially black from a short distance.

If you've read the book, you probably won't like the film. This is true for most book-based films, not just Dune.
No. The Dune movie was so horrific as to be completely out of range for comparison to any other book-to-movie translation. I read the book first (at 15) and remember that as I was reading it, I was figuring out how I would make a movie out of it. I can't even begin to describe the apoplectic fits the movie gave me.

The stills from the series look pretty good compared to my vision of the book. I especially like the "look" of Paul and Chani - good casting! But I will withhold judgement until I see some special effects. And then there's acting, dialog and delivery too...

I watched this one while doing my taxes...and the taxes were more entertaining.

So, how come Scully never even got a nick? Other than she is so hot she vaporizes the lead befer it hits her?

Ducovny (sic) himself defined this show best in the last scene when he muttered with obvious irony "Now THAT'S entertainment".

I just realized where this article is coming from:

In the late 1800s, many people bemoaned the rise of the industrial "society". It would destroy the family, dehumanize people, and we would all die terrible deaths; crushed by the unstoppable juggernaught of the evil "machine". And look what happened (i.e. nothing of the sort).

Well golly folks, its the late 1900s and it's being done to us again...and many of us are buying it, and getting sucked into arguments just like this one. That's OK, it's human nature. Just remember to check in with reality when you catch yourself buying into it again.

Yak yak yak. Blah blah blah! I can't believe this is posted here (or that I'm replying to it). Aside from the fact that Clotho is dumb -- and if it where implemented would soon be overrun or worked around in any number of ways, Mr Katz is not taking responsibility for himself!

I hear people whining about being inundated with technology every day. If they get too desperate, or heaven forbid, ask me for advice I tell them one simple thing. GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN FOR AWHILE!!!

I've worked in the technology arena for more that 20 years. I have no cell phone, no pager, no GPS system to find me. I get my work done, and play with the technology toys that _I_ choose to on _MY_ terms in _MY_ timeframe. I also get to play with my kids, race my car, jump out of airplanes, and cook great meals. IT'S MY CHOICE!!!

GUESS WHAT! IT'S _YOUR_ CHOICE TOO!!

C'mon kids. It's just like guns or drugs or pokemon cards (or the printing press, or the telephone, or radio, or television...). You are driving. Make good choices.
