Because it wasn't available outside of Apple (NeXT) circles, which was a good thing as it allowed C++ to prosper amongst the many.
I was interested in both ObjC and C++ way back when but soon found that C++, particularly when you cotton-on to templates and then the STL, really allowed me to do anything I wanted and let my imagination fly.
