  1. Re:Just a quick question? on School District To Parents — Buy Office 2007 · · Score: 1

How about looking at it from the point of view of having little or no technical experience. I would always recommend a Microsoft product over any free version because of the level of support avaliable from Microsoft and the internet. Also its easy to recommend someone take the ECDL (European Computer Drivers Licence) which will teach them how to use the product, and 9 times out of 10, their employer will pay for that. Its much easier to get a person to buy a product with free support than to get them to use a free product and pay for support. Woo for open source software, yes its getting easier to use, but if ur a 30 something person using a computer / office for the first time there is a learning curve, one which is made easier with microsoft products. (and yes i know open office is nearly the same as office 2003, BUT to someone new they are two different products).

One thing people seem to be overlooking is the possiblilty (although ive not kept up the latest development) of running linux on a ps3. If sony can sell the ps3 as a fully functional desktop pc (as in allowing word processing and research to be done for the price of a usb keyboard and mouse) then they might have a good hope at the lower income people.

I mean they have a monitor of some sort, so its $530 for a next gen console, br player and desktop pc. Rather than $300 for a 360, $400 for a PC...

Sony have a good shot, doubt they will use it tho!

Erm, everyone knows the shuttle is unsafe. Hence the no-go's. BUT never before has there been as much study of the possible problem area. The danger is falling foam, so they can look at the underside, photo it in extremly small detail and then decide if there is a problem. The go was given because there is the analysis and 80+ days safety aboard the ISS.

What would happen if *nix systems were used for businesses day to day work and held lots of important data from everyday users and their downfall would cause public outcry, would *unix turn out to be as holy as MS? Would hackers be able to find loads of holes? hummm...

Ok, perhaps some of you should look at your lives long and hard. 1.5% of a average salary of £20 000 is £300 per year. What if everyony put 1.5% of their salary into charity? UK GBP is about £1,200,000million. 1.5% of which is £18,000,000,000. £18billion! from the UK alone. Now pls tell me, if MS had not been invented and u lot had not made him rich would u have collectivly made such a large donation? Its sad that someones good will can be undermined in this way. He had no pressure to do this but he did, we should be greatfull, follow suit and set our machines to dual boot.
