... and they don't have pictures???!!!

Do you really want to see the Intel Bunnymen again, dancing under a disco ball in their colourful cleanroom outfits?

Of course they still sell them...

Ok, let me clarify that: They don't sell them here in the United States anymore that I have seen. Maybe because of the threat of liability lawsuits?

And to use a hovermower to mow around a retention pond, you need to use the rope on the handle of the mower -- sorry, no kill switch in that configuration. They are probably quite stable on level ground, but on slopes and inclines they want to hover downhill.

I am glad to see they are still around, and now have some of the standard modern mower safety features.

That's what I thought the article was about too -- the hovermowers.

They use to be quite popular to maintain the grass around retention ponds and such. Stand on the top of the hill, let the rope out, and down the hill it goes. Move over and pull the rope up, and that's how you mow grass around ponds. I just feel sorry for the first person that tries to mow the area with a regular push-mower. It would quickly sink into the mud.

But, the hovermowers were extremely dangerous, and it was quite common for them to fly back towards the person running them. They haven't made them in a long time.

They are interesting idea, but just too dangerous.

Granted, this technology will bring Internet to a few more people.

But, BPL isn't bringing them fiber optic like speeds, or very high speed internet. Just so-so broadband access that pollutes the radio spectrum.

As a DSL user, I find my Internet service lacking in speed more and more each day. Explain to me again how bringing not so revolutionary BPL at the cost of radio spectrum is good? And how will BPL speeds compare 5 years from now? Or 10 years?

I would rather see money invested in fiber optics and Wifi deployments being done. Show ISPs we're interested in serious very highspeed bandwidth, then yet another way to deploy dialup X 5. ;)
