They're doing a fair bit more than that, they gave this as a parting gift to active TR players when they were announcing the closing:
* 3 free months of City of Heroes including digital client
* 3 free months of Lineage II including digital client
* Aion beta access (coming soon)
* Aion pre-order access (available in 2009)
* 1 free month of Aion (including digital client, no physical goods, available in 2009)
The thing is its not just an academic network for only academic purposes. A whole lot of college students LIVE there and don't go home every day like say at a workplace and they should expect a reasonable internet connection just like in any home. Getting a separate internet connection is not an option in any college I'm familiar with, the companies won't do it.
I am a "college kid" and while I didn't get a letter from the RIAA, I did get from NBC/Universal(Through the university's IT department) for sharing DVD isos of a show I never even seen. I guess fortunately they didn't ask for money like the RIAA and merely to stop sharing, before they took legal action(Which is impossible for me to do since I never did it in the first place, but I guess that never stopped the RIAA) Never heard back from them again, so I guess the issue was "resolved".
Well if your going for ridiculous: Smashing Pumpkins Into Small Piles of Putrid Debris. If you take the first letter of each word and add an ID in front of it some of you might recognize it for something else too...
The grab folks that might look guilty probably isn't too far off the truth... I got a letter about a month ago from NBC Universal via my University for sharing some DVD isos of some series I don't even watch on some site I've never even heard of. I guess fortunately this was more of a cease & desist letter rather than a pay us a settlement or get sued letter. Its been a month and nothings happened and probably won't, although I wouldn't mind being the one who ends giving the big fsck you to the false allegations and shoddy investigations of the RIAA members and now MPAA members, I certainly don't have the money to do it.
I knew of a place that did something like this(Closed down now). They showed movies that had come out about 3 months before or so for about $4 for the ticket, popcorn, and soda(Which were actually unlimited too, but who wants to leave the movie to get more anyway?). It broke down price wise to $1 for the ticket and the rest for the soda and popcorn, which you couldn't opt out of buying. It wasn't a bad deal at all if you didn't mind not being able to see the movie right when it comes out.
If all the Koreans are cured of their internet addiction, where will we get our gold farmers? China? They aren't nearly as dedicated! I bet they only get 15 hours of gold farming a day! Sleep they say! Who needs that?
Which ministry IS responsible for Gundams? This new Zero jet I bought from Japan does *not* transform into a giant robot and I want lodge a formal complaint. There has to be a law saying all jets from Japan transform into robots somewhere.
Yes, because in this case the instructions to the jury were to have the plaintiff(various members of the RIAA) prove that the files were "made available" rather than prove that actual downloads had occurred.
Here is the article on the jury instrctions
Ah, Quake was a classic. My brothers had gotten their hands on the beta version of it before it had been released. The Twist? It had no enemies in it. Imagine how fast it became boring.

I learned how to read by watching my older brothers play video games and having them read the words to me. I knew how to read before kindergarden, and by the time i hit the 3rd grade i could read novels and playing plenty of video games myself.

Actually I think most states do more or less the same thing, I know Maryland does something similar to this.
