Good grief, give the drama a rest, will ya. It is only going to be an epic battle in the minds of those who count up page hits as a measure of self-importance.
Aside from telling others, who may like the Recycle Bin, how a Windows Desktop should function, the proposed solution only hides the problem. The root problem should be solved.
.
Why not make the confirmation window for a delete have three buttons:
Yes
No
Permanently Delete
The latter would skip the Recycle Bin stage and permanently remove the file.
What is the point of that argument? It is a worthless apples to Volkswagens comparison.
.
It looks like PCWorld may be trying to get page hits by jumping on the tablet bandwagon, and they are just trying to say something different, anything so long as it is different. Unfortunately for PCWorld, they forgot to make their article relevant.
The large corporations who want to continue to use patents to stifle innovation and competitors will hire lobbyists to get the patent "reform" they want.
.
Look for the patent law to swing wildly in favor of the large corporations and against upstart companies.
We do not copy results from any of our competitors. Period. Full stop.
Parsing that carefully, that is not what Microsoft was accused of. So, in effect, Microsoft is saying that they did not do something that they were not accused of.
It's Microsoft's typical tactic, try to move the discussion over to a slightly different topic when Microsoft is caught with its hand in the cookie jar.
More disturbing for me during this whole mess is the fact that Microsoft is capturing my mouse clicks and visited links when I am using the browser, and sending that captured data back to Microsoft.
.
Microsoft blew it big time here. In their efforts to lock up the U.S. Government, Microsoft stepped way beyond the realm of common sense dignity and fairness.
This only illustrates that Microsoft is still unable to compete on a fair playing field, and that Microsoft continues to require a bias towards them in order to win comparisons of value, functionality and/or worth to the project.
'The moment the "net neutrality" debate began was the moment the net neutrality debate was lost.
Once Congress and the commercial interests that fund Congress get involved (e.g., U.S. Chamber of Commerce), any hope of any manner of neutrality is lost to the money of lobbyists and special interests.
It is no longer Republicans and Democrats, it is now individual citizens vs. corporate interests. And it looks like corporate interests have won. We no longer have a Republic. We no longer have a Democracy. We now have a kakistocracy run by corporate interests.
The scenario described in TFA is but one of millions and millions that could have transpired. Yet that one was chosen because it fits into the author's agenda.
This law may very well be passed. Yet there as those in Congress who have unabashedly and shamelessly exploited 9-11 for their political ends, and who now balk at providing those Heroes of 9-11-2001, the First Responders (those who ran into the burning buildings to save others), the literally life-saving treatment that they require to stay alive. The Congressmen are demonstrating hypocrisy at the highest and most refined level.
.
Yet they can pass a law to require cars to be noisy.
Windows' dominance of the PC market has been good in many ways: reduced hardware costs, increased IT literacy
.
Reduced hardware costs compared to what? Increases IT literacy compared to what?
How do you know that hardware would actually be more expensive had it not been for Windows?
No one knows what the world would have been like if Microsoft had not used illegal business tactics to create and leverage its monopoly and to suck the profits out of the PC industry. Perhaps hardware would be even less expensive had some of the profits that Microsoft usurped gone to the R&D of hardware manufacturers.
Either you are trolling or you are utterly clueless.
Not trolling at all. Indeed, you are unable to answer the question I pose, and instead turn try to turn it around into an attack on me.
(for the record, I am not utterly clueless, partially maybe. But not utterly.)
How much money has Microsoft said in its SEC filings that it has spent on Research and Development. What is the result of that money spent? I remember the big PR splash that Microsoft Surface made, and how it was boasted to be a product of Microsoft Research. Then I saw this video of Johnny lee who surpasses Microsoft Surface for $50 in parts and some real creative research and development.
One person offered Clippy as a shining star of Microsoft Research.
(I'll pause while the laughter subsides....)
Some good projects of Microsoft Research have been mentioned, but I will ask my question again --- what project in Microsoft Research has dramatically changed the computer industry?
No one so far has been able to show how Microsoft Research has elevated the computer industry.
Microsoft researchers built tools that are helpful in testing very large and complex software, essential to try to guarantee that the code does what it's supposed to,
That certainly does not sound like basic research to me. Indeed, it does not even sound like research. It is a software development project.
Can anyone name one Microsoft Research project that has significantly affected the computer industry?
The Mozilla exec is trying to turn a FireFox security hole (i.e., the ability to load plug-ins without the user's knowledge or consent) into something else (other companies are evil for exploiting the security hole).
.
The solution is simple, Mozilla needs to fix the security hole in FireFox, and while they are at it, provide a means to uninstall plug-ins that does not rquire me to go rummaging through the filesystem looking for oddly-named files and deleting them.
Load up a program that allots him only a few hours per day on the netbook; then tells him to go outside, and play with his friends and bask in the wonderfulness of nature.
Microsoft knows that they cannot win on a level playing field. Microsoft knows they are unable to compete without having their finger on the scale. So they cheat.
Good grief, give the drama a rest, will ya. It is only going to be an epic battle in the minds of those who count up page hits as a measure of self-importance.

Does anyone really think Microsoft wants to partner with the Open Source people?
Microsoft is out to destroy the Open Source community. Why else would Microsoft prohibit Open Source apps from the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace?
.

Once Microsoft's BoD realizes where the problem truly resides, then and only then will the problem be fixed.

Wouldn't things be much better and open if instead of ICANN or IETF
I'm OK with the IETF.
It is ICANN that has messed things up with their awful processes and back-room dealings.
That's news to me.
No bubbles were burst because you did not proffer a valid debate on the topic. I do give you an "e" for effort, though.

With the corporate takeover of the US Government how can anyone expect for net neutrality to survive once the lobbyists get involved?

Perhaps it really shows how great google has been at acquiring businesses that are relevant in the Internet Age.
This is the nature of benchmarks... whenever people start caring about them enough, software/hardware designers optimize for the benchmark.
It shows that Microsoft is more concerned about getting a good score on the benchmark than they are about providing a good customer experience.
Microsoft knows that they cannot win on a level playing field. Microsoft knows they are unable to compete without having their finger on the scale. So they cheat.
That it renders the card unusable in other devices is irrelevant.
I would say the relevancy is to be judged by the person who owns the fried card, not you.
