  1. Re:The concessions on FSF, OpenOffice.org Team Reach Agreement on Java · · Score: 1

And when Sun realized that the language was confusing, they updated future source releases with new language that EXPLICITY gives developers rights to whatever they remember. So no more excuses! If you want an OS Java platform, code it. Sun sure as hell isn't standing in your way.

Yes it is. The Sun's java licence explicitly forbids me to use it. In fact, even the website refuses to let me download it. I believe that is a pretty big 'standing in my way'.
  2. Re:Region Free on What Would You Ask For in Copyright Law? · · Score: 1

I completely agree with you. I've always been troubled when the copyright holder refuses to distribute his work, and forbids others to share it. That is completely against the spirit of copyright law (at least, the 'intended spirit'). I am a ... copyright violator not because I don't want to pay for the material I use, but because the copyright holders refuse to let me pay for them - and that is a frustrating feeling.

I would add a couple of exceptions, though: this rule should not apply before the holder begins the distributing his work, and I could accept a reasonable delay between releases in different regions in some circumstances, to allow the owner to decide what is more profitable, to do the distribution himself, or to forefeit his hold in that region.

Anyway, I applaud you for your post... too bad I don't have mod points.

Actually, I don't find it very interesting. Given that a file is *never* stored in a folder (at least on the filesystems I know of: ext, ntfs, fat, reiser), but is instead 'linked' to it by the folder, it should be quite easy to implement this... in fact, it should be easier than *not* implementing it. Several filesystems already allow this. On ext2/3 and reiser they are called 'hard links'. What could be interesting would be some kind of 'dinamic folder', that would populate with the result of some query.

  5. Re:A few questions.. on Venezuela Moves Further Toward Open Source · · Score: 1

    1) I'm from Cuba.
    2) I live in Cuba.
    3) I can say mostly what I like/think without being punished in anyway (like that I currently disagree with some of the things that are being done here, and that I fully agree with some others)
    4) From what I've seen here in slashdot (I know this isn't a good point), americans are even less free than us (except in the economical sense, of course).
    5) Hmm. I'm discussing this 'on the wild internet', and i've done it many times.
    Bye.
