Two features of the law of euthanasia sit very uneasily with each other. One is that
euthanasia is murder; the other is that only a light punishment (if any) should be imposed in
cases of euthanasia. This is slashdot, and FTFY is a common technique, to illustrate a point.

You're euphemizing murder by calling it euthanasia, and I'm calling you out on it, as the expansion of personhood to other intelligent animals is a clear inevitability from this ruling.

As for the dogs I murdered, of course they are persons. I say drive them to the nearest bus stop, hand them a twenty dollar bill, and bid them a happy life. Freedom! And keep the change!

There, FTFY. Hard to see it as a charity for the dogs you've enslaved for your own enjoyment.

They are now, in a NY court of law.

I'm left to wonder how long before the fact that I've had two of my dogs euthanized is no longer a legal act?

Legal for now, but you might think twice before euthanizing more dogs.

Sorry, but just because it exists in an asteroid, doesn't mean it is abundant on, or in earth.

My advice is to start up a private funding campaign (YouCaring) and get her to wherever the most pioneering medical research is being done and get her some stem cells. For his own sanity, I suggest that he start seeking out other spouses of locked-in patients for some support and find out what they are doing -- which is probably better than any other advice that I've read here.

  10. This was tried in San Fran in 1906 on Researchers Experiment With Explosives To Fight Wildfires · · Score: 4, Interesting

"After the flames were extinguished, the explosives did nothing but create an avenue for the fires to spread during those first critical hours: Buildings and walls that might have served as firebreaks had been demolished.

The explosives also raised a dust that choked the lungs and impaired visibility. But perhaps the worst damage was the creation of even more fires as flaming debris ignited ruptured gas lines. Unwilling to admit responsibility for their collective mistakes, the Mayor, the Army, and the Fire Department all pointed fingers at each other, adding fuel to the administrative confusion that reigned during the fire."
