  2. Re:Ugh, (/= 'chatbots 'AI) on ALICE Wins Loebner 2004 Prize 2004 · · Score: 1
Time is on Dr. Loebner's side. How many of these "AI Professors" have held the chair of any successful academic conference for 14 years? How many have fostered a new technology out of their own pocket?

Also, where are these "real" NLP products now? Are they top secret? If so, they don't need the publicity yet, so it is stupid to complain that they aren't being written about in the press.

Seemingly, he calls Richard a "chatbot hacker," yet ALICE is built on sound scientific principles and Dr. Wallace holds a PhD in Computer Science.

I am a Loebner contest participant and have been published in real journals and conference proceedings.(as has Rich) I am on the advisory board for an annual conference for performance metrics of intelligent systems, sponsored by IEEE and DARPA as a result of winning the Loebner Prize contest twice. Therefore, some actual AI researchers (Dr. Alex Meystel, Drexel University for one) "submit to this malarky." Anonymous is proven wrong on that point.

I suspect that he is just paroting Marvin Minsky in order to posit an opinion on this subject. If anonymous knew as many respected "Professors" as I do, who are firm believers in the contest, then I doubt he would have posted with such vitriol.
