Yeah, terrorists, sexual preditors etc.... are on the face of the bill. But 20 bucks says RIAA and MPAA are the funders (of the lawyers and politicians of course, we will still be paying for the storage space etc...)
Apple did everything in their power to prevent jailbreaking, they attempted to make it against the law, and every version of IOS attempts to prevent jailbreaking. We are talking the difference between a store opting not to carry pornogrophy, and a store doing everything in it's power to push for pornography to be outlawed.
It's also pretty obvious why the rule is in place. I believe we all know flash apps themselves are subject to security flaws. Someone downloads kongregate's app from the google ap store, kongregate accepts a program that actually has a virus. All of a sudden google gets bombarded with "I got this in your store and it has a virus, what kind of quality control do you have, apple is right". This isn't a hinderence to fans of kongregate's games, if you are familliar with their games you are familliar with their site and can click the link on kongregate's page and get it yourself.
People like you and me may reverse our purchasing decisions based on our view of politics and such. Same reason I will never buy a PS3 or anything from sony (actually my sony boycott began way back at the rootkit CDs incidents). However you do have to keep in mind 99.999999% or so don't care. Hell even the friend of mine who's computer I spent a weekend fixing after the sony rootkit mixed with a virus on his computer, owns a PS2 and a PS3 now, hell he still buys sony music CDs.
Anyway all this ranting is giving me a headache, I need to go buy some head-on and apply it directly to my forehead.
Agreed, also not just the universities, high schools and peer pressure. Look at japan, when grades are posted, they post everyone's grades in every subject for everyone to see. Math scores, science scores, English or other language scores, not only is your grade visible but you are ranked. If you are 26th place in a class of 26th, it shows to everyone in big flashing lights essentially. In America we are terrified that that would hurt someones self esteem so we do the opposite, if someone sucks at math, nobody knows nobody makes fun of them. So the social norm by the students is not to care, there is only one class that kids can visibly see how well the others are doing in and make fun of them for it, Gym. So where is everyones focus, you guessed it.
You've never played turbines f2p model then. I haven't played lotro but I have played DDO since it went f2p, and turbine has a huge difference in style then many f2p models. You generally can reach max level without even the slightest issue as a f2p player, The equipment in the cash shop, is all easy to find vendor trash that I get 10 items equal or better to them in a 15 minute dungeon run at level 9. The only major thing in the cash shop is extra instances that you can run. Essentially for $3-$7 you get permanant access to newer dungeons etc... Basically gives you more variety if you are playing a ton of characters. On top of that, you earn cash shop money for just running the game, so if there is one location you really want to get to, but didn't want to buy from the cash shop to get it, you can earn it instead. Assuming the Kid with the unlimmited credit card who spends $500 a month, going against say me who spends $15 every 2-3 months when something I want is on sale, my character is just as powerful as theirs are, there is no clear and obvious way to tell even in intense gameplay if someone spends a ton in the cash shop, short of maybe there armor is shiner (armor appearance kits, we'd still most likely be wearing equivalent gear but theirs might be dyed to look the way they want it)
While personally I don't fear being seen in public places I can say it's fully possible to hit the slippery slope idea. They start out with the short term drone, get laws passed ensuring the legal rights of police to fly unmanned monitoring devices. Once the laws have passed, then you get the swarm of solar plains or whatever.
If this technology became more commonplace, and car theft becomes easy as downloading an ap for your iphone
we may have to reverse our slogans.
Start an anti car-theft promotion,
You wouldn't download a song would you?
Well on alarms to your statement I would say that comparison is on par with saying "when was the last time your smoke alarm went off and your house was actually on fire". Car thieves generally don't hit in times and places where you would be passing by. However I do agree on thier uselessness primarally due to the quanity of false alarms have desensitized everyone to the sound. If you hear a car alarm go off outside your appartment your first reaction is, will someone shut that f*cking thing up, instead of someones car is being broken into, I should call the police.
I believe what he's saying is newegg is a site that's target audience is custom builders, and thus has a poor selection of pre-assembled computers, going for what your ordinary joe would buy, you check where an ordinary joe would buy his computer, lets try dell.com
first computer listed in home PC's
Inspiron 560 priced at $399, check tech specs for rear ports, HDMI port is listed.
Actually with modern computes I would say HDMI is such an understood people don't list it
Not to mention the slight chance of 1. the rabbid obnoxious fanboys that like to quote the sales figures of consoles, and 2. who knows maybe 3rd parties use the console sales as a metric when deciding what systems to develop their new game for.
Not sure if it is as much google as the inevitable result of a monopoly. In a world with only 1 noteable AV vendor viruses would get by at a much higher rate. It does speak horribly for bing that it's results are almost as bad with no target on it's forehead.
As far as shopping, as far as when you want to buy something and can't find the sites selling it, that's what froogle is for.
Well I do have to say a bit of disagreement on bandwidth suffocation. Whether you like or hate google you do have to admit their philosophies saved bandwidth and lowered suffocation. Before google started getting big, the general philosophies of advertisers was, OK nobodies clicking our ads, make them bigger make them louder, prevent access to the page until they have aired
Google started focusing on the idea, No matter how loud you scream it or how much you force them to watch, a 21 year old single man isn't likely to be interested in tampons, and thus google focused on smaller text only advertisements that focused on relavance to the target instead of flashyness
Now avoiding being labeled a google fanboy, this change in philosophy came at a price, relevant ads revolve around knowing as much about the person as possible, and thus, tracking, monitoring etc...
In my opinion I myself would rather google have the pattent on this ability then say a company with the old style of thought, flash ads etc...
In the end there are 3 choices for the internet to carry on
1. Dealing with loud obnoxious advertisements with no real target audience beyond what page they are on
2. Dealing with small quiet advertisements that track everything they possibly can about you
3. More sites go paywall and charge for accessing their content.
Much like the expression, fast cheap and quality pick 2
Private, free and non-advertisement flooded pick 2
still get their apps from trusted sites? I haven't heard anything about china blocking the andoid marketplace, and I am sure that the chinese have more experience knowing what chinese sites are safe and not.
I believe the point is, it does have to get explicit permission when it is installed,
the android prompts you when installing it asking
Do you want to give this application access to Storage, Contact list, GPS cordinates, Internet access
etc etc...
It is like a robber that has to knock on your door and ask you to give him your wallet, keys and laptop.
Never said it wasn't a malware infection, it just isn't an operating system flaw that anyone can fairly bash microsoft for. Now in the case of a company in this case, for clicking allow to administrative privilages, that is a flaw of their IT staff for letting non-technical users have administrative rights.
I never said that wasn't a general infection, I said it wasn't a windows security hole, short downgrading all systems to an ipad-esque system (which even that has holes in it as anyone who is going to go out of their way to download from an untrusted source would probably be just as willing to follow instructions to jailbreak)
Well there's a big difference between the 2.
The windows security holes people complain about are generally not "Joe sixpack opened an EXE and clicked OK to the run as admin prompt", that is a user problem not a security hole. The security holes that are newsworthy are "Joe sixpack was browsing CNN.com and a banner add was able to jump from his browser and take over his system" or "Joe Sixpack was reading a PDF file and his system was taken over"
Same as on the android, in this case "Joe sixpack chose to use an unknown provider to download an app, then didn't question why a calculator/screensaver/word processor/game wanted permission to get to his contacts, phone numbers GPS data and internet access etc..., then a week later got a prompt asking to install another program with similarly ludicrious requests". The darn phone tells you point blank exactly what the program can access, it dosn't even have the ability to sneak in more then it tells you it can.
If you want to call that a security flaw, then complain to your telephone company that if someone calls you and asks for your credit card number, they might be able to get it if you tell it to them.
It's pretty true there, before the other OS, there weren't even known attempts, beyond one lame idiot saying he thought he might someday be able to do it through the other OS, that caused sony to go crazy and remove the other OS feature.
Before then sony had the best possible security possible for a console, give the modders an outlet, modders/homebrewers with high inteligence usually are not the same as the modders that want to sell to pirates, so you keep the smart ones busy, and the pirates won't have anyone to do their dirty work for them. You flip the finger at them and tell them they are a security risk and can no longer keep what you sold them... well expect the most determined wave of security breaks in history.
Never been to ripoff report, but does the site allow a retort, a citation of the proven lies in a comment, Personally in my experience the best remedy to a lie is to counterballance it with the truth, not to attempt to shut the lie up.
Now admitted I am probably a minority but to me logically.
Person A: The world is flat
Person B: The world is not flat, here is evidence, here is a picture of the world from other angles, here is a peer reviewed science report explaining such
You keep person A's lie there, keeping person A with their rights, but anyone looking can see, they don't have a leg to stand on, from a quick glance at ripoff reports site, they allow just that, a Rebuttal box.
wow pretty impressive similarity. Question is with modern courts would selton have lost, and actually if I recall correctly ford's big contribution wasn't the automobile itself, but the manufacturing process. If ford wanted to patent troll, he would have to do so with the assembly line, Back then even the most determined and foolhearty troll wouldn't have believed in patenting an idea like that, These days, I wouldn't put it past anyone.
so essentially, the hybrid is twice as likely to hit a pedestrian in the 2-10 MPH speed range. this problem can be solved without noise, invent a toe guard for the tires, essentially something like the front of a train would do the job just fine. A car backing out isn't going to kill anyone short of a small child that happens to be under the wheel, otherwise you are talking about bruised elbows at the most extreme.

I did just the oposite, I laughed so hard at the advertisement, I used the chrome extension to add it to every page

true, but without having it hacked, you do have to worry about features randomly being removed in the event that sony gets spooked
