  1. Re:Get ready, mate. on Draconian Anti-Piracy Law Looms Over Australia · · Score: 1
Actually, a significant percentage of Australians were already made instant-criminals when they very suddenly passed that big anti-gun law over there given that most of them didn't have much opportunity to turn in their guns.
Actually, there was an amnesty that lasted one year in which they could turn in their guns at the nearest police station. No-one was made 'instant-criminals' and I'd say they had plenty of opportunity to hand in their guns. Then again, you being an American would probably know more about that than an Australian would.
  2. Re:even more relevant on MySpace to Use Audio Fingerprinting · · Score: 1

MusicBrainz isn't exactly a fingerprinting project. It is a database that links fingerprints to a particular track on a particular release. All the fingerprinting is done by MusicIP's software and/or Relatable's TRM software, both of which are closed source. MB's data is open source though.

we also can't prove that what is attributable to random chance is truly random, and isn't actually at least sometimes influenced by some outside force with motivations that we don't understand.

We can't prove it because it's not a testable hypothesis, which as you pointed out is the reason for the whole argument over ID. It's just not science!

  7. Don't forget about deforestation? on Big Arctic Perils Seen in Warming · · Score: 1

Why are people ignoring deforestation? It seems to me that the biggest issue here is not just the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere but also the amount of CO2 sinks on the planet the more rainforests we destroy the less chance we have of neutralizing the impact of the increased CO2 levels.

Why are conservatives so blind to environmental concerns? You would think that they're inflated self-interest would make them pay attention.

  8. Greens = Flintstones???? WTF on Internet Censorship in Australia? · · Score: 1

It really shits me when people equate Greens with luddites.

The Greens have never planned to ban electricity or transport OR meat eating. It will take some serious technological advances to maintain our current standard of living whilst minimising our impact on the environment.

Not to mention the new technology we will need to create to reverse the damage already done by humans such as weeds, ferals and wasteful agricultural practices.
