Apple is making it impossible for anyone else to sell a computer that is compatible with OS X.
THERE IS NOTHING STOPPING ANYONE FROM MAKING A MAC OS X COMPATIBLE COMPUTER. NOT EVEN APPLE COULD SUE YOU IF IT WERE COMPATIBLE, EVEN IF YOU INCLUDED EFI.
I think the blame America school of thinking is one of the main reasons that the Democrats lose elections. Certainly if I were an American I'd find it pretty hard to vote for them while they spout this sort of nonsense.
Sure the US makes mistakes, but claiming that US policy is the root of all evil seems like inverted nationalism to me. It's also grossly simplistic.
Fighting terrorists is like getting hit by a woman. If she hits you like a man, you hit her back like a man. If a terrorist hits you like a nation state, then you hit them back, like a nation state. That means, no courts, no tribunals, only war and death for them.
You know women who hit like nation states? Wow, I've got to meet one of them.
Yo momma so big, when she it you it's like a nation state.
We have known for a long time that Neanderthal had a larger brain than modern human and a sophisticated culture, including burial rites. There was no scientific consensus that Neandethal was stupid.
Someone's been reading Scientific Neanderthal again.
Shave the hair off 'em (leave a neckbeard), dress 'em up goth and you could rent them out for $100 per hour to Fortune 500 companies. They're quiet and don't bother people with their political views. Just sit there munching donuts and viewing porn. I have a couple of homo sapiens for any coding, rest of the server room is neanderthal to keep the numbers up. The humans behave better when they're around too for some reason.
An important feature of Stalin's rise to power is the way that he manipulated his opponents and played them off against each other. Stalin formed a "troika" of himself, Zinoviev, and Kamenev against Trotsky. When Trotsky had been eliminated, Stalin then joined Bukharin and Rykov against Zinoviev and Kamenev, emphasising their vote against the insurrection in 1917. Zinoviev and Kamenev then turned to Lenin's widow, Krupskaya; they formed the "United Opposition" in July 1926.
In 1927 during the 15th Party Congress Trotsky and Zinoviev were expelled from the party and Kamenev lost his seat on the Central Committee. Stalin soon turned against the "Right Opposition", represented by his erstwhile allies, Bukharin and Rykov.
If the OP seeks power, I recommend a similar strategy.
The flip side of becoming a point of authority in an environment as this is that if/when code defects bubble to the surface on your watch that result in a major hit to the company's bottom line, you may need to have a thick layer of asbestos underwear on in order to prevent the blame game from claiming you as a victim.
I am not familiar with your capitalist system.
I was thinking of Stalin, a great Russian leader. Stalin saw several problems in Russia and approached Lenin (like a CEO). Stalin amassed political power while Lenin was alive and then replaced him once he died.
If people start to blame you, I would recommend (based on Stalin's methods) that you conduct a witch hunt for saboteurs and spies. Also make sure everyone is too busy imposing the new working methods to stir up much trouble.
Additionally make sure the CEO gives you control of building security and announce a period of special measures. During this rather than a disciplinary process followed by dismissal, enemies of the new working methods will be summarily shot by security and buried outside under the flowerbeds.
I would recommend ordering building security to uncover several plots against CEO and then put them down brutally as an excuse for Special Measures to be announced.
It sounds like in your company there is no one doing this job. You've talked to the CEO. Get him to make you VP of software and tell him you'll solve the problem if he gives you responsibility.
Anarchy is an opportunity for the ambitious and unprincipled. Take it and make yourself software Czar.
Sounds good to me. Whenever I see web page load slowly, I can see "connecting to google analytics..." in the status bar of Opera. If Opera had an option to block that and the other analytics/advert script sites I'd be happy. The odd thing is that most banner ads either load fast or don't block the site displaying. In any case, I've learnt to ignore them so I don't bother to block them.
Google analytics on the other hand really annoys me.
Why should the people of Dubai care what Senator Obama thinks?
See, and here I thought Obama was more like Morpheus, who would lead the revolution and find The One, but that ultimately the Real Deal would be a pasty white guy who honestly isn't nearly as cool.
He is cool. He spents years as a POW in Vietnam and it made him a bit crazy. It'll be like President Rambo.
I read somewhere that they even removed GLX- which basically represents linux's only sane graphical development. That is just sad.
Don't get me wrong- I love opensource technologies, but let's face it... part of what makes linux awesome is the fact that it's generally supported by some important commercial things like adobe flash and nvidia (for its drivers) and such- and how about mplayer? I am more in the "screw licenses" boat than the "boycott anything without gnu written on it" raft.
The XO's usual software load is not 100% free; it has a non-free firmware program to run the wireless chip. That means I cannot fully promote the XO as it stands, but it was easy for me to solve that problem for my own machine: I just deleted that file. That made the internal wireless chip inoperative, but I can do without it.
Just because open-sourcing the embedded software in the flight-controller of the F-16 would might improve the quality of the software from the peer review of thousands of aerospace engineers worldwide, doesn't make it an appropriate application of open sourcing software.
If weapons systems were GPLd and that weapons system crashed in some enemy country and that enemy country read the binaries out of the Roms, would they be able to demand access to the source code?
Sadly more people of your mind you do not expatriate to a place where they already do business "your way" such as...well, nearly any second or third world country. You can sprinkle lead paint on your corn flakes and have silica sand for desert if you like. Sure civilization has its warts, but if you don't like it, don't fake like there's no alternative and try to drag the rest of us back in time. Bye.-Matt
The problem for the US is if companies do. I've read plausible arguments that offshoring, i.e. moving manufacturing to second and third world countries is more about regulations than wage prices. E.g. electronics companies tend to run rather low labour intensive factories these days - pick and place machines populate the boards and IR or wave solderers solder them in place. You don't need many humans intervening to keep them running, and it is not a very skilled job. So the amount you could save by heading for the third world is pretty minimal. But skilled humans to fill out paperwork for government agencies are expensive, especially in the first world.
"The third dimension is a theoretical realm of space and time in which the particles of dark matter of this parallel alternate reality bends light to collide with the electrical charges of the subconscious mind to create the illusion of movement where what is dark becomes light, what is light becomes dark. Some look at the third dimension and see nothingness. Others believe they see the very face of God."
I hate to be pedantic (ok, no I don't, I love it), but since it's a Japanese word, the plural of Sudoku is Sudoku. Also, there should be a macron on the u, but that's way less important.
This is a blatant lie. A BLATANT LIE.
THERE IS NOTHING STOPPING ANYONE FROM MAKING A MAC OS X COMPATIBLE COMPUTER. NOT EVEN APPLE COULD SUE YOU IF IT WERE COMPATIBLE, EVEN IF YOU INCLUDED EFI.
I didn't know that Macs had a Caps lock.
But it's the same as other brandnames. A Nike swoosh on a pair of trainers means a huge markup.
DifferentThink is the art of believing in two incompatible things at the same time.

Yeah, Carville, in your face.

What about this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ex_parte_Quirin
This seems to imply that saboteurs and spies, the foreign asshats the GP mentioned, don't have rights under the Geneva Convention.
If it were up to me, I'd treat them as criminals and give them a normal trial.
Ah, that explains why Oog isn't around anymore, breaking heads with his Open Source CD.
Have you ever been to any Linux events?

Stalin shared power with two other people initially, the troika or triumvirate with Zinoviev and Kamenev who were later purged.

Bwahahaha.
Damn right! If it doesn't work on either my Atari ST, NeXT cube, or BeBox, Obama's DEFINATELY losing my vote!
Fixed that for you.

Don't mod down N word trolls in this thread!
Bradbury would not approve.
Mod them up.
