The only art left to corporations, perhaps. The individual can still do some pretty nifty stuff that ISN'T overmarketed.
The only problem is, there's just too damn much of it that it's hard to sort thru the garbage and find the gems. So folks tend to write it off as all garbage.
(Examples will be forthcoming as soon as I can think of a few good ones that also happen to be on the web.)

As one friend of mine pointed out, there was a serious problem relating to the whole Anakin-race-to-get-money-to-leave bit, for example. Allow me to demonstrate...
O-+-------------Q ...@
Say that those are planets. O is Naboo, @ is Tatooine, and Q is that other planet. (I can't remember, 'cause I only saw it once) Distances are relatively similar to how they're represented above. Now, these Republic credits that these folks have, they're good at O and Q, but _not_ @. Odd, don't ya think? Plus, isn't the whole _goal_ of a smuggler to get legitimate money in exchange for what they've stolen/smuggled/borrowed? It makes no sense whatsoever.
Oh, and there was also my friends' incredibly funny line about the HORRIBLE little ending: "Oooh, what's this button do? Oh, apparently it ends the movie."
Ah well...
"I don't believe that there is one, single, perfect spiritual way and, in realizing that, obviously you become a lot more open."
that's why there's a moderation system - so you can sort thru that sort of thing.
Face it, so long as people are free to express their opinion, you're going to see far far more than your share of trolls, idiots, and Persons For Whom I'd Make An Exception To The First US Constitution Amendment.
That's what moderation (them little score thingys) is supposed to fix. But letting anyone moderate doesn't exactly work, I think.... I note one moderator gave you a point - another moderator might just dink you a point for being offtopic.
Even tho I haven't a clue as to how it works, this nifty-sounding "meta-moderation" thing might take care of that.
sorry for the long offtopic post:)

It is an enormous market. We're talking everything from your little kids' preschool (used by the administration, teachers, staff mostly) all the way up to colleges and universities (used by everybody). And every single step in between. And the Macintosh dominates there.
It's the primary reason Apple's still alive:)

Palm III _does_ have Flash support. I take advantage of it all the time:)
There just isn't all that much flash memory available compared to some (800k or so), but that's still a considerable amount for a PalmPilot.:)
As for uCLinux, I won't touch it 'till it's just as easy to use as PalmOS, and is compatible with PalmOS apps. I don't need things to be _more_ complicated.:)

Opera has the best keyboard support of any moreorless mainstream Windoze program I've ever seen. I use those functions all the time. I don't think there's any Opera functions you _can't_ access with the keyboard in a fast/efficient/timely manner...
Research before you post please:)

Emphasis on "some". Personally, I love MDI. Especially Opera's implementation of it.
('Course, I'm also using a slightly hacked version of Windows 98, so consider the source...:) )
Nice thing about MDI from the user perspective is that it's a big memory saver - for example, in Opera you can have about twenty browser windows open at once with little or no performance degradation - impossible if you have a totally new window all the time, or at least it is in Windoze.:)
I suppose it's more of an advantage to us Windoze users then the rest of you folks, but I still like it. Nice way to keep all my browser windows/IRC windows/email windows nicely organized and in a central location, WITHOUT screwing with virtual desktops (which I hate, but that's another story:) ).
"I don't believe that there is one, single, perfect spiritual way and, in realizing that, obviously you become a lot more open."
You know, my father has a theory right along those lines.:)
The theory goes something like this:
In geological terms, millions of years is a very small section. Few thousand years is a tiny speck. Couple hundred years is almost nothing. A few decades is almost too tiny to exist.
Given that, consider our technological development - how it has exponentially increased to the point where you almost literally expect a new development every week.
Now imagine what kind of impact this development would have on a geological record. Minimal at best.
Sooo... isn't it obvious that dinosaurs had a technological boom, same as ourselves, decided to vacate the earth (possibly 'cos of an approaching plauge, or Ice Age, or whatever), leaving behind as little evidence as possible that would indicate intelligence?
You decide...
"I don't believe that there is one, single, perfect spiritual way and, in realizing that, obviously you become a lot more open."
Just because you don't like it yourself doesn't mean that it 'sucks' per se. Personally, I rather enjoy just shooting some annoying little pixels after a long hard day. Helps blow off some steam:)
(that seems to be a problem with a lot of folks I see - if you, personally, specifically don't like it, then it "sucks" and nobody should ever use it. Riiiiiiiight.)

Oh yeah. Wayyy too much of it was overlooked.

Bragging material. So he can post /. articles saying "I've had my BSD system up for over two years".
:)
While it makes a nice selling anecdote, it doesn't seem very practical to me.
