DVRs are now a commodity, to profit Tivo should have kept innovating. Instead cheap cableco DVRs are eating Tivos lunch on the low end and Tivo has ceded the high end by not supporting HiDef.
If Tivo wants to survive they need to:
Get HiDef support NOW!
Lower the cost of subscription. Many people use the internet to download show data, Tivo should pass the savings to the consumer. Current Tivo owners won't upgrade because newer Tivos aren't noticeably better than old ones, and people new to DVRs want either a cheap one or one that supports HD.
Innovate dammit! Make the hard drives bigger and the box smaller, incorporate some of the best hacks out there into the base unit, come up with stuff that people don't even know they want yet, and above all get your head out of Hollywoods ass.
Why do people always die "in the streets" when the state doesn't rescue them?
Real "rights" are simply limitations on what the goverment can do to people, and what people can do to each other. Your right to live means that all I have to do is refrain from killing you. Your right to practice religion does not mean that I have to build a church for you. This is precisely why health care cannot be a "right".
An ideal government is one that:
Provides secure but freely traversable borders
Ensures safe passage for international commerce
Protects true rights like those found in the Bill of Rights (freedoms of expression, religion, property rights, due process, etc...)
If you have a router with keyword blocking you can do it there. Also, the Adblock extension for Firefox will do it easily.
Have you tried blocking *.swf with your firewall?
I think the interface is near perfect as is. What you want are these navigation shortcuts (warning: annoying flash audio ad)
