  1. Challenger on And The Rockets' Red Glare · · Score: 1

Actually, they do have the Challenger...

It's not advertised on the front page, and Categrized under Historical Documents, it's there more as a Chronicle "This is what happened", just as war footage would be. Let's remember those who gave their lives... Going into space is a dangerous task, Astronouts know this and willingly take that risk with every mission. Seven people died that day in 1986, we need to remember our mistakes to prevent them in the future. "Those who do not study history are bound to repeat it"

exactly, take a look at Texas where carrying a concealed weapon is leagal, the Crime rate, relative to most other parts of the country, is very low...

    why?

If there was the chance that half the people in the bank will be armed would you still pull your gun out and rob it?

    absolutly not!

if there was the chance that Joe Pedestrian might be packing heat, would you take the chance and Mug him?

    probably not.

but if you knew that the law abiding private citizens inside were unarmed, then there will be little to worry about as far as personal safety if I wanted to commit a violent crime...

all that disarming the public will do, is make life easiar for the criminals.

Having Virtual PC for Linux wouldn't make much sense. A PC emulating a PC? Riiiight.

...you mean like what VMWare does?

I have been playing with VMWare and it is quite useful, my main platform is Linux but am sometimes forced to run other OS' VMWare allows me to run NT, 9x, BSD, etc.and with the newest Beta, even OS/2 without re-booting. so Yes it WOULD make sense.

I just checked the ISO image and indeed it only has 2.2.14... interesting

  7. Alpha definition on What constitutes an Alpha-version? · · Score: 1
this is the way I see it...

PreAlpha : Very first code written, this is where initial loaders, etc. are designed and tested as well as the other basic parts of the code. (typicaly Stability ~ 0)

Alpha : The thing at least runs now though crashed are expected. :-) the feature set is not yet complete, this is where the project begins to take place as interface issues are addressed and features take shape

Beta : Feature freeze, Most features are intact, though there are normally still a few that are still being ironed out this is normally where testing really begins to pick up, to squish all those bugs.

Release : The bugs have been all but ironed out now, though there really is no such thing as bug free code, so a few are hiding somewhere, but it's good enough for everyday use.

(By this, Mozilla probably sits around Alpha)

  8. EVERY Web User? on Microsoft Announces W2K Pricing · · Score: 1

Microsoft is trying to squeese every monopolistic dollar they can. even with security, how can you charge for every web visitor?!? the size of the web makes it hard to control, what ever happened to flat fee unlimited user servers? (commercial) I know we have Linux and Apach which I use, bit let's face it, much of corprate america does nto trust a free operating system a free server, with the source out to the open so that "Any cracker can look at the source and find holes" man still prefer a closed source (ie. M$) WAKE UP DOJ! at work we use Novell and the licensing is the same, we're stuck with a a so many user license and have to bump people off to logon at times... why, because they want to charge per user connected! whay does it matter to them if 1 or 1,000 people connect to their software, they don't have to work any harder so why should they get paid more. but that's the way the suits want to do it. If people will pay for a per-user license, they will charge it, BUT if companies started looking at lower costs alternatives/Open source, then I would bet that Microsoft, Novell, etc. would start charging flat fees in an effort to compete!(BS)

    If you pay, they'll charge!

Being a Christian AND a geek myself, I like my share of point 'n' shoot games, I've played DOOM, quake, and LOVE all three Descents but, I have nothing wrong with trying to tie Christianity with games. All this one is doing is taking two sides of a spiritual war (we already know the outcome :-) and putting it into a shoot 'em up game, that can twist people's conception of the battles that really go on every day where we can't see them. WHAT IS THE SPIRITUAL VALUE THERE? None, just putting religous faces on a non religous game. A true Christain game would be just like many others except that instead of whatever Humanistic worldview might be in place (every thing made from TV, movies, to music, displays soem sort of worldview be it humanistic, polytheistic, christian, etc.) but would be based upon a Chirstian value (ie. one omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscent, omni*, supreme God, resurrection, salvation, FORGIVENESS, etc.) it doesn't even have to be blatantly christian and spit out WE ALL LOVE EACH OTHER, ALL IS GOOD BECAUSE GOD LOVES US, no, present real themes from a Godly perspective, just be presented from the viewpoint of Christianity instead of atheism, or polytheism (Many Gods), or Cosmic Humanism (New Age, ie. wizards, witches, faries, etc.) or whatever other belief system the developers it Id., Parralay/Interplay, Sierra, Origin, etc.

Con-Air (R) (AC - Adult Content, AL - Adult Language, GV - Graphic Volence) or a game; Tiberian Sun - Teen (Mild Language, Realistic Blood, Realistic Volence). This is all done volountaraly by the movie channels and Game companies!

Why can't we do this on the net, all it would do is let people know what it on a specific site. I would be all for tags like , , , etc. tags. that way a parent can set the browser to reject pages with say tags and would prevent childern from viewing objectionable sites. That does not impose on anyone's rights only helps enhance mine if I wish to stay away (or keep children away) from objectionable sites.
