There have been times when installing XP that I am sure I have not seen the partition screen, but that could be the XP home edition (use professional here, but built some computers for friends with home)
I have used both and haven't noticed much of a difference, or any at all for that matter. I muse say that I haven't really been looking and, well, I have my pride.
The british latest is still 1.0.6. I can't understand why bugfixes, which wont change any of the text shown to the user (other than perhaps the version number), cannot be released for all locals at the same time.
from TFI: 4. System becomes the property of SpecOpS Laboratories.
I doubt many people will be willing to build their product for them, for just $10,000 anyway
If the partition is read only, you may as well use a ramdisk which is filled with a hdd-based backup at boot time. New 64bit machines can support more than enough ram for this on their own, but i'm not sure about any motherboard restrictions...
Honestly, why is this newsworthey? I dont think there is a single piece of software (except perhaps 'hello world' level) that doesnt have bugs.
I believe there should be a minimum intelligence needed to use the internet, mainly being able to update things every now and then, often by simply clicking a 'next' button a couple of times (and I have yet to meet someone who, when properly instructed, fails this), so people should keep up to date without needing headlines reminding them that they should try to keep up to date. Bug reports should be limited to bug reports, and not invading out news sites.
While I agree that price is important, it is certainly not the most important. A compromise between price and performance must be made.
For example, there is no real need to buy a box at twice the price for 10% improvement, in the same way there is no point buying many cheap boxes, when one at a slightly higher price will do the job of many cheaper ones.
I think it's sad that my children will grow up in a world where true freedom of speech won't exist.
Another thing, if people start to let this kind of thing exist in the world, what will be next? Our children being brainwashed by the large corperations, those big enough to no doubt supply the $$$ to 'encourage' this.
It is bad enough with the TV telling them they 'need' the latest action toy, but that doesnt quite have the same effect as trying to make them earn it, as if it is something to be proud of.
Typical NIMBY, people want to use their phones everywhere, but complain about the masts needed to satisfy them.
A similar thing is happening where I live, everyone wants cheap flights, but make such a large fuss when they try to extend the local airport to satisfy the demand for flights.
That should get me over until I can get a linux version :)
Pfff, 4500 concurrent users? Thats nothing
Eve online recently broke 22000 users on the same unsharded server!

OK, I give up. Refresh my memory. *What* did Microsoft innovate in the 1980's?
Marketing then selling software. Worked well, too.

In england the sprinkler system has malfunctioned in the big room.

IMHO, the only possible use for this is to show off to your mates that your computer boots a tiny bit quicker than theirs.

It would be interesting to set up two webservers, same hardware etc., just one running IIS on windows, the other running apache on *nix or *bsd.
No patches allowed, fight to the death :D
