Trust me, this won't happen. No one wants to see her again, and again, and again, and again, and again
#!/usr/bin/perl # use hard constants rather than soft references my $parishilton = 1; my $nakedbody = 1; while ($parishilton == $nakedbody) { print "and again "; }
That being said the author of the article is definately a hardware hacker.
You don't have to be complex. What you want to do is show them how to print Hello.
Make a simple program which does this:
Child types in name
Computer says "Hello Emily, How are you?
Child types Fine
Compter says "What is your favorite subject?"
Child selects from list
Computer prints/shows picture of subject with text over it saying "Emily loves Math"
Don't underestimate this simple solution. What you want to show the kids is what you do on their level. They will never be able to understand complex algorithms and the reason why you use C over Perl over ASP.NET. But if you show them something which uses their name and interacts with them they will love it. You can then explain you make these sorts of things at your work.
I have to admit it looks very nice. That being said it also appears not to have much in the way of content. Most of the stuff seems (except for the good how-to) appears to just release notes (http://www.gnome.org/start/2.10/notes/rnwhatsnew. html) repackaged. If that is what they were going for then okay, but I think they could do a whole lot more with this. (caveat: this is my first time reading the Gnome Journal).
Think of it--a thousand hobbits attempting to take down King Kong with their pipes as Bredo the lovely female hobbit tries in vain to make peace while on a quest to... blah, blah, blah.
This is the way you get taxation on the net though. "It's just a voluntary tax so it affects very few and you really could skip it."
Pretty soon, they pass a law saying it is now not-voluntary. (No problem, how would they ever know...)
Then a law comes which says if you do business in the state of WI you must collect sales tax on any sales.
Then another law comes which requires any merchant doing business in WI over the net to submit records of those who purchased products/downloads,etc.
This is what is happening in a few state with regard to taxation on the sale of cigarettes. What was happening is that citizens were not paying the local state tax on cigarettes and now are facing large bills in the thousands on PAST purchases.
