Honestly, if you can't think of a suitable way to use it you probably don't need it. Nevermind Seti@home, experimental webrserver or whatever silly usage you might think of... do your bid to save the planet. Recycle it. Flame at will.

It sure doesn't have to be all that insecure.

I use the same password on almost every site, with a few distinct exceptions (like /., actually -- perhaps I should do something about it). I could even tell you my never expiring password, and it wouldn't make any difference - you wouldn't be able to use it.

    Why?
The keyword of the day is 'seeding'.

I've compiled my own cryptoalghorithm to obscure my standard passord into unique passwords for every site I register at. I use a seedword related to each site in conjunction with my standardized password, and thus gets an unique password for each site.

So say I register at a site which is comprimised. Now the attacker has my obscured password. The attacker would still need my algorithm to be able to figure out what my password is on all the other sites I'm registered at (or have a large quantity of the passwords and start the good ol nuclear powered password cracker). Say someone gets a hold of my algorithm and is smart enough to figure out that 'ebay.com' is the logical seed for ebay.com, now they would still need my original password.

I'm fed up with the idea that sharing is caring. I don't like to share. I don't want anyone using my bandwidth, my CPU-cycles, my harddrive or my bathroom. It's not that I don't have a high bandwidth connection or several idle CPU's laying around, it's just that I don't like the idea of giving when all I want is recieving (i.e. torrent) I say we put an end to this hippiecomu P2P and other distributed services once and for all.

    Actually not quite right.
There are "streams" of water in fast motion comming from the poles. Due to global warming almost every one of these streames have vanished. These streams are the fuel that keeps the Gulf stream flowing. Remove the fuel and the Gulf stream stops. Stop the Gulf stream and hello iceage in the northern part of the world.
